Grace to Help

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

How many of you have got a nice group of little helpers around your home? Many years ago, one of my sons had just learned how to walk, and it was really adorable to watch him as he tottled around the living room. But when our family was picking pine cones, he would slowly walk over to the big pile of branches, pick one of the cones, and then bring it all the way across the room to place it in my cup.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

It’s nice to have kids help you out around home, but our precious Lord Jesus is the greatest helper that there is. He wants to help us by granting us complete forgiveness for our sins.

Hebrews 4:16 (KJB)  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

There are times that we need certain things during our lives. For example, whenever you need something to eat, don’t you walk out in the kitchen and open up the cupboard door?  Perhaps you need a special tool from the garage, don’t you go and look for it? There are certain times in our lives that we need a large supply of God’s grace, and through repentance and contrition, it can be found in our precious Lord Jesus.

James 4:6-10 (KJB)  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

This passage is all about contrition, something that is greatly lacking throughout this world today. Like splitting a firewood log in half, our hearts need to be sincerely broken before God.

Psalms 30:5 (KJB)  For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

The Apostle teaches to come boldly to the throne of grace, and to do something boldly means to do it in a brave and confident manner. God wants us to approach Him so he can show us the mercy that we need.

1 Peter 1:3 (KJB)  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Psalms 30:10 (KJB)  Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.

The Lord was helping people wherever He went, and all the wonderful things that He did couldn’t be contained in all of the books ever written. He was healing them and forgiving them everywhere that He went.

Matthew 9:1-8 (KJB)  And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And he arose, and departed to his house. But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

When people cried out for mercy, the Lord heard their cry. Blind Bartimaeus is another example of a man who cried out so much that people wanted him to quiet down!

Mark 10:46-52 (KJB)  And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

The Lord is ready and waiting to forgive, but people need to humble their hearts.

Psalms 86:5 (KJB)  For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

I have said for 25 years that the most precious treasure on the Earth is the blood of Christ Jesus, because through it, we can receive complete forgiveness for our sins.

1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJB)  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Even though we have all sinned, God reaches out to this sinful world and provides an opportunity to receive Grace and become a new creature in Christ

Romans 5:6-11 (KJB)  For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

God wants us to show that same forgiveness to others.

1 Peter 4:10 (KJB)  As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Psalms 54:4 (KJB)  Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

Praise the Lord for reaching out to us and providing us with, the…..
