Alcatraz

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many penal correctional facilities will attempt to bring some hardened criminals to a place of repentance but sometimes just like in the church, it’s going to require extra discipline. For example, in Alcatraz, down within the D-Block section, there was an isolation area known as the hole where the inmates were sent for severe infractions of the rules. A warden wants to keep things peaceful and quiet within the prison, but if inmates were going to provoke him to anger, correction needed to happen. Within these chambers, an inmate was kept in a dark and cold cell, and with minimal food. Sometimes people have considered this as a form of torture, but people haven’t seen anything yet, in comparison to what God is going to bring to pass upon the heads of the impenitent.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Just like a hardened criminal gets punished for refusing to capitulate, there is an eternal lake of fire that awaits all those who do the very same thing. I guarantee you that no prison on Earth will ever compare to the Eternal lake of fire that awaits the wicked.

Romans 2:5-11 (KJB)  But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.

Why do people get punished? Why did Paul have a fornicator removed from the church? Why do children have to serve detention at a high school? It’s because of willful and rebellious disobedience towards places of authority. There is no fear of God before their eyes or the consequences for their reckless behavior. Whether it’s your dad, a sheriff, or a correction officer, you must obey, obey and obey! If places of authority choose to disobey the will of God, and purposely wrong you in some manner, then they are going to suffer their own consequences, because the Lord Jesus will quickly descend upon their heads and punish them.

Galatians 6:7 (KJB)  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Through submission to the gospel and repentance towards Christ, Jesus wants to save us. Save us from what you might ask. From a burning lake of fire that will never be extinguished! Think about a fireman that wants to save you from a burning building that’s completely engulfed in fire! But he really can’t save anyone if they choose to resist him. Those who choose to resist Jesus are going to be engulfed in everlasting flames, but unlike a burning building it will be an eternal place of torment where death will never be found.

Matthew 25:46 (KJB)  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Colossians 3:25 (KJB)  But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Correction is a fact of life, and if people cannot understand worldly places of correction, they really do not understand God.

Hebrews 12:5-11 (KJB)  And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

In society you’re going to find many people who work in law enforcement and some of them are very merciful people. When you first meet some of them, they will be very humble and kind in their heart, but you don’t want to provoke them to anger either. When you first met the Apostle Paul he was extremely meek, but if you chose the path of rebellion, he had people thrown out of the church. Our Lord is our perfect example of humility and meekness, but He is also a God to be greatly feared. He was filled up with so much wrath that He scourged people and cast them right out of the Temple.

John 2:13-17 (KJB)  And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

Some people become so hardened in their hearts, simply because they have no fear of God whatsoever.

Romans 3:16-18 (KJB)  Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Matthew 10:28 (KJB)  And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

God is certainly going to reward the good but He is also going to punish the impenitent. You can be assured that the punishment that awaits the wicked will be far worse than anything that was ever seen at……
