Underneath the Bus

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of James.

James 5:16 (KJB)  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

To confess means to acknowledge a fault, misdeed or a weakness. It is to openly admit wrong doing. There are many forms of false Christianity that have completely cast aside the need to confess sins to other people. They will quickly claim that they can admit them to God, and there is no requirement to have to go and tell other people about what they have done, but that is completely contrary to what the Apostle teaches us in this passage.

Confessing sin to others releases it from ones heart, so that it can be forgiven by God, and the healing process can begin, both physically and Spiritually. Unconfessed sin can have devastating effects on the human body, resulting in pain, suffering and sickness. John the Baptist was listening to people’s private confessions as he baptized them in the Jordan River.

Matthew 3:1-6 (KJB)  In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

I have heard many people claim that they don’t feel forgiven by God, and more than likely it’s because of their refusal to humble themselves and confess their faults to those whom they have wronged. That is a process of repentance, and if one chooses not to take that path it is a reason why they are in a state of unforgiveness with God. A lot of times, rather than admitting fault to others, people will become so filled with pride that they will go off and join another church instead. They really believe that they are on their way to heaven, but the truth is that they are believing a lie. Reconciliation is commanded in the scriptures, and those who do not seek it are completely going against the will of Christ Jesus.

Matthew 5:23-24 (KJB)  Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Reconciliation can only happen when you admit your faults to those whom you have wronged, and if you cannot take that initial step, it’s never going to happen. Even when a true man of God listens to private confessions, he will admonish others to go and get right with those whom they have sinned against, which is far more important than bringing money to the church! Many people think that if they just throw enough money in the offering plate, it will somehow rectify the problem and it will go away, but this is only because they don’t want to have to humble themselves in the presence of those whom they have maligned. They would rather throw people under the bus and cast all the blame on them, rather.than reconcile with them, and that is not only a warped form of theology, it is religious pride in one of its purest forms. Christian charity forbids this behavior, and when you openly sin against others, it’s going to tick them off, and the sooner you can take care of the issue, the better off it’s going to be. When people sin against others in such a manner, and refuse to reconcile with them, God does not even hear their prayer and intervenes on behalf of those who have been wronged. If you read the story about Abimelech taking Abraham’s wife, he had to take care of the issue otherwise God was going to kill him.

Genesis 20:7 (KJB)  Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.

When we read the parable of the Prodigal Son, he finally came to a place of humility, returned home so he could confess his faults to his dad. Only when you do this can people begin to pray for you so the healing process of forgiveness and restoration can begin.

Luke 15:11-24 (KJB)  And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

The prodigal son was humble enough to return home and confess his sins, but there will be many people who are just too proud to do this. Their hearts will become cold and hard, refusing to admit fault and reconcile with the people that they have wronged. But God is not mocked, and people are going to reap what they sow, suffering with God’s punishments for the evil that they do. His justice will prevail when people refuse to accept the blame, and choose rather to throw His servants,…..
