God’s Choice

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of 1st Corinthians.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (KJB)  For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

There are many people throughout the world who have been highly educated in the teachings of the world. They packed their bags, headed off to college and eventually graduated with numerous degrees and honors. A lot of the time, society will refer to them as very smart people and a cut above the rest. When they eventually go out to find a job, a lot of employers will be very interested in those who possess this type of higher education. But do you know what? All of the information that they have spent years obtaining does not matter at all to God, because it is temporal knowledge that will eventually fade away and perish with the Earth.

Luke 21:33 (KJB)  Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Unlike an earthly employer, God chooses people who the world considers foolish or uneducated. These are people who the world really doesn’t pay attention to, and are considered unworthy of their regard. They might call them simple minded or even a fool, but these are the types of people that God chooses. Remember that Jesus chose some simple fishermen and even a tax collector to be His Apostles.

Acts 4:13 (KJB)  Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Ever since our youth, many of us have been educated in the ways of this world, filling up our minds with all types of worldly knowledge, but that quest is foolishness with God. No matter how much information is stored up inside of your head, in order to enter into the Christian Life we need to refill it with the wisdom of God. For many people, earthly concepts and philosophies have got such a grasp on them that if they were to let them go, they might appear to others as a complete idiot, but that is exactly what the Apostle teaches us we need to do.  We may appear as fools to the world, but this is because we are seeking to be filled with Spiritual knowledge and become wise in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 3:18-19 (KJB)  Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Whatever you seek after most in your life is what you are going to be filled up with, whether it’s earthly knowledge or the wisdom of God. To understand God’s will and purpose is the greatest desire that one can possess, because only then can you transform into what He wants you to be. The wisdom of God must be the greatest treasure in your lives if you truly want to enter into eternal life.

Proverbs 8:10-11 (KJB)  Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

James 1:5-8 (KJB)  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Not many highly educated people are called by God. Rather than pick some of the highly educated religious leaders of His day, the Lord Jesus picked a group of sinners to carry His message to the world.

Luke 5:8-10 (KJB)  When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

Matthew 9:10-12 (KJB)  And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

God chooses people that most people in this world wouldn’t. Rather than picking the cream of the crop, God will reach down into the bottom of the barrel. He will completely transform a sinner into a Saint, which is outward evidence to the world that repentance is required to obtain eternal life. Many people want to set themselves up as their own judge and jury, professing themselves as being worthy of God’s Kingdom, but all that is is self- righteousness.

Luke 16:14-15 (KJB)  And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

God will pick those who are hated and despised in this world in order to further the truth of the Gospel.

Matthew 10:22 (KJB)  And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

1 Corinthians 4:9-10 (KJB)  For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

For thousands of years the message remains the same. People must repent or they will perish. God will take the worst of sinners and transform them into a brand new creature, to teach this world that no one is above repentance. A wretched sinful person might not be your first choice, but never forget that they are…..
