Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from 2nd Timothy.
Many people claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ, but a true follower of His is going to act, behave and live their lives in the same manner as He did. A genuine Christian is not supposed to have any involvement with political or Earthly governments of this world. Many people will say, how is it then possible to shine the light? The same way that John the Baptist did when he rebuked Herod for his wickedness in Matthew 14:4. Some very wicked and evil things are found in earthly places of government, as many soldiers, policemen and even sheriffs have explained to me over the years. The Apostles and disciples of Jesus didn’t run for public office, nor were they throwing their hat into the ring to be elected to places of earthly government. Many people might consider my comments pessimistic, but the facts are this, you cannot change this world, because God is going to destroy the world and everything in it in the future. There is not going to be a ground swell of righteousness in this world, because as the Apostle Paul teaches, deceivers will wax worse and worse.
2 Timothy 3:13 (KJB) But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
Many people will seek after political office and tell others that they are going to bring about change and peace for the people who elect them, but the facts are that you are not going to find peace in this world. Just like the days of Noah, this world is headed for destruction.
1 Thessalonians 5:3 (KJB) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
A Christian can have no involvement with political or worldly government. The worldly offices that people hold come with great fame and notoriety, but these are things that are to be rejected as a servant of Christ. Remember that it is the devil who tempted Jesus in these matters, but He completely denied any involvement with it.
Luke 4:5-8 (KJB) And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Jesus rejected the political arena, as will each of his followers.
John 6:15 (KJB) When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
You cannot come out from the world and be separate, and be involved in the political arena at the same time. This is because you are surrounding yourself with people who don’t share your religious beliefs. It is forbidden by God to do this.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 (KJB) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
The Lord didn’t command people to get involved with politics or government, He called out to men to preach the gospel. There is a huge difference between the kingdoms of this world, and the kingdom of heaven, which is one of the reasons why a Christian is never to go to law enforcement or even the court system to resolve their issues with others.
1 Corinthians 6:1-2 (KJB) Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
Some people claim that it is their calling to be involved with politics, but one must remember Moses who could have been Pharaoh in Egypt. Rather than focus his life on earthly governance, he rejected it all. Lot didn’t join the city council in Sodom and Gomorrah, he left. The places of authority on this Earth are temporal and short-lived, but the governance in Christ is perfectly just, and eternal. With politics comes admiration and riches, but those who choose the path of Christ choose a life of poverty, scorn and hatred. Unlike politicians who find great favor with their constituents, very few people will be on the side of a sincere man of God. Genuine Christians must have no involvement with the kingdoms of this world.
John 18:36 (KJB) Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Many forms of false Christianity have actually got politicians standing up behind their podiums and speaking in their services. Can you imagine the Lord Jesus inviting somebody to do this when He fed the 5000? Absolutely not! You cannot serve a political structure in this world without developing loyalties to certain people. As a man of God, you are to rebuke sin, no matter what side of the aisle it is on. It’s either right or wrong from the Word of God, and politics has nothing to do with it at all. Sometimes when people choose the political arena, they will find themselves very reluctant to criticize those who have selected them to that place. That is because they have chosen them rather than Christ.
Earthly soldiers will lay down their life for a political agenda and for earthly kingdoms, but you have to understand that all the kingdoms of this world including the Earth itself is going to be destroyed. Jesus is creating a new kingdom, and just like a king or earthly leader who is waiting to pick out people for their cabinet, Jesus is going to pick out people to lead in His kingdom, and it all comes down to what they did while here upon the Earth. Many people get involved with Earthly governments to try to change the world, but Jesus came to save the world, which is a big difference. This world and everything in it will someday be destroyed, so people need to focus on saving others through the preaching of the Gospel.
Proverbs 11:30 (KJB) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Remember that God calls us to come out from the world and be separate, and that is going to require you becoming………
…….Apolitical
