The New Amendments

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many times when people think about amendments, they think about the Constitution of this country, which actually has been amended many different times. In my own opinion, the words repent and amend are very similar because they both have to do with changing something to make it better. Many people write books, but they are very rough when they complete them, so someone else will review what they have written, and perfect the things that need correction. Some people will write up a screenplay, but when it’s done, it’s not the final draft. Other people will edit some of the ideas that they have presented until it becomes the finalized version that they want to publish. It is also true of the Constitution, which people have formally changed in order to make improvements upon it. When you amend something, you change it for the better by correcting any faults within it. Ameliorate is a very similar word that means to make something that is bad better! It is to reform your manner of living, so that sinners can be transformed into Saints!

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Each of us will have to make amendments in our lives, correcting all of the sinful activities that you once participated in. When we are exposed to the teachings of Holy Scripture, (and understand them), we come to the conclusion that we must live a life of repentance and faith towards God. So like changing the Constitution, we must change our lives, allowing ourselves to be converted to Christ, and making any new amendments that are needed.

Jeremiah 26:12-13 (KJB)  Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard. Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

There are only two ways that you will live your life for Jesus, in obedience, or disobedience. You can either do His will, or you can completely reject it. You can either submit, or resist. But be forewarned, that whatever path you take, is going to result in Eternal consequences with God.

Luke 13:23-24 (KJB)  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Romans 2:7-8 (KJB)  To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life, But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

God loved this world so much, that He allowed His son Jesus to die on the cross for our forgiveness. Jews would sacrifice Earthly lambs for atonement, but Jesus is the Lamb of God! But a lot of people simply don’t understand that the grace that we are given is for a purpose. God expects you to change your life around, because if you never amend your ways, then you are still the sinful person that you have always been. Through Christ we have a chance to obtain eternal life, but it’s going to require turning away from your sins, and becoming faithful unto the teachings of Christ. After all, this is the message that was preached by the beloved Apostle Paul.

Acts 26:16-20 (KJB)  But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

As Jesus forewarned, we are in a day and age where we are surrounded by false prophets. Many of these heretics preach that works have nothing to do with one’s salvation, which is completely contrary to the teachings of the Apostle James. He taught that faith without works is dead, which means that if there are no works of repentance going on in their lives, then there is nothing going on inside of their heart. They might have robes and three piece suits, but they have no light in them. No one can obtain eternal life through works alone, because the only way to enter heaven is through faith in Christ Jesus. It is also the only way to obtain forgiveness with God. Without faith in the Savior of all men, people will die in their sins. Some people feel that they can do all kinds of works and obtain salvation, but apart from Christ, their souls will be lost forever.

When you become a Christian in your heart, and receive Grace and forgiveness for your past, you had better believe that works are commanded throughout the entire New Testament. It is outward works of repentance that prove an inward change of one’s heart. A lot of the New Testament are the repentant works of the Apostle Paul! This means that if you were a cruel person, you now become a kind person. If you were hateful and malicious, you now become loving and benevolent. So when false prophets tell you that works are not a part of our own salvation, you can tell them they’re a liar and an unspiritual fraud. I really wish they were cut off from you, because they are instructing people to believe a lie rather than the truth. Everyone will need to make certain amendments in their lives if they ever expect to be in heaven, because bringing forth works of repentance is the road to our own salvation.

Jonah 3:10 (KJB)  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

John the Baptist warned the religious people of his day to bring forth works meet for repentance. Now everything is gone full circle, and the same thing has to be said to those who profess to be Christian. Works of change, works of a new direction, works of a new commitment, and works of a new lifestyle of obedience will be required to enter into heaven. Don’t be deceived!

Jeremiah 35:15 (KJB)  I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them,….

Jeremiah 7:3 (KJB)  Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings,..

The Christian life is all about change, and to obtain eternal life, we must be completely transformed, which will certainly require, making some…..
