Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Recently when I was driving home, I got a flat tire out on the highway, and a state patrolman was merciful enough to stop by and help me out. Because my spare tire was flat, he gave me a ride to a local repair shop to pick up a tire. On the way back, I was discussing unmarked squad cars with him, because the vehicle that he was using that day looked just like everybody else’s. I explained to him that in my own opinion, I felt that patrolmen should use unmarked squad cars because when it comes down to it, the only people who are going to be concerned about unmarked squad cars are people who are speeding recklessly on the highway, or doing all kinds of other evil things.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
A lot of times, people will only drive appropriately when they see a patrolman driving down the highway, but everyday we are surrounded on all sides by people who are watching how a Christian lives their life. Like an unmarked squad car, they appear just like everybody else, but those who follow Christ must always remember to stand up for the truth and walk in the light at all times.
Hebrews 12:1 (KJB) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Sometimes people will go to a church service, and act extremely religious.when they are there, but as soon as they leave, everything changes. They might make the attempt to live the Christian Life for a few hours a week, and then the rest of time, they live just like the rest of the world and completely forget.about the person that God wants them to become.
James 1:21-25 (KJB) Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
All around us, we are surrounded by witnesses who are watching the way that we live. Not only that, but one must remember that God sees everything that we do.
Proverbs 15:3 (KJB) The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
Job 34:21-22 (KJB) For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings. There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Jeremiah 23:24 (KJB) Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
In our study passage, “beset” means to be surrounded and attacked from all sides, or constantly harassed and plagued by difficulties and threats. For example,…
Think about a man who is out in the middle of the frozen Alaskan frontier. As he beds down next to the campfire for the night, it slowly begins to burn down. As the firelight begins to dim, the wolves began to show up as they patiently wait for their opportunity to pounce on their prey. But that is the moment to begin throwing more logs onto the fire, showering the forest with bright light to scare off all of the dangerous predators. With all the wolves that surround you in this world today, you must continue to shine brightly with the flame of the Holy Spirit.
Philippians 2:15 (KJB) That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Enemies of the followers of Christ will always try to find out any tiny little things in your life that they can potentially use against you. After all, this is what they did to our precious Lord Jesus. They couldn’t find anything wrong with Him, so they had numerous people bear false witness against Him.
Matthew 26:59-63 (KJB) Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? But Jesus held his peace……
So when the wolves begin circling the camp, you have to think about the things that Jesus had to endure.
Hebrews 12:3-4 (KJB) For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
John 15:18-21 (KJB) If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.nIf ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep your’s also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
Some people were even trying to find fault with the Lord simply because of what He ate and drank. What malicious pettiness!
Matthew 11:18-19 (KJB) For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Be prepared when you become a Christian, because you are going to enter into some type of suffering. It normally begins from people who you would least suspect, such as parents, relatives, in-laws and even your own spouse who join up with each other to raise malicious tribulation against you. Just like wolves around an Alaskan fire, you will be surrounded on all sides by those who hate you. But like sailors in heavy water, we must patiently endure the storm, always remembering what Jesus went through for our salvation.
We are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses and we must be on our best behavior at all times. After all, the people that you meet could be a king without their crown, or a soldier out of uniform. Who knows, it might even.be a patrolman, who is driving in an,…..
