The Father’s Business

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Work is a part of our daily life. After all, a mechanic will head off to the shop each day, and begin repairing his neighbor’s vehicle. A construction worker will put on his tool belt and go over to his neighbor’s house and begin framing a new home. Even a faithful wife is no stranger to hard work, because she will rise up every morning and start cooking breakfast for the entire family.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

The Apostle James taught that faith without works is dead. It is our works that define what we are and what we believe, and anybody who claims to have the Holy Spirit will be filled up with the exact same works as our precious Lord Jesus

John 14:12 (KJB)  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father

First of all, women are absolutely forbidden from preaching and teaching God’s Word, and this was obviously a passage that was directed towards men. Those who have chosen women to teach scripture in any capacity are false prophets, and as I have said many times throughout the years, we are currently surrounded by them. Many of these same people are involved with heresy, by teaching that being involved with works have no bearing on one’s own salvation.

John 5:17 (KJB)  But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Luke 2:43-50 (KJB)  And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

Many people will claim that works are not a part of the Christian Life, but that is contrary to biblical truth. Obviously we can’t get to Heaven by our works alone, because we have to come to our lord Jesus and receive forgiveness for our sins, but maintaining works is a Spiritual staple in the New Testament. I mean, look at all of the works of the Apostle Paul who wrote much of the New Testament that we have today. The Apostle Peter was filled up with many works, and spent his life building the Church of Christ Jesus. Look at the life of Moses who was filled up with works and traveled into Egypt to be a spokesman for God. So you see, contrary to the teachings of false prophets, works are very much a part of the Christian Life, insomuch that without them ones faith is dead.

James 2:14-26 (KJB)  What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

The Apostle teaches us in this passage that faith without works to back it up is complete vanity. Obviously, people know that you are a good mechanic because you repair their vehicles for them. We are known by our works and our deeds! Even the Lord Jesus taught if you believe not me believe me for the works sake.

John 14:11 (KJB)  Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

The Lord Jesus was healing people of their infirmities and gave the same power to His Apostles who went and preached the Word of God everywhere.

Luke 7:18-23 (KJB)  And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things. And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

There are many different occupations out in the world today. Some people are loggers, while others are plumbers, but some people have chosen to live their lives preaching the gospel, because after all, it’s…….
