Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of John.
In order to live the Christian Life it requires many different things throughout the scriptures that we are commanded to keep. Like going to a tech school to study how to become a deep sea scuba diver, we need to be educated in the teachings of our faith in order to become a Christian. One of the very first things we are commanded to do, is to be baptized by submersion.when we are baptized into the name of Jesus christ, we receive the free gift of the Holy Spirit, and become a newborn child of God. But when you are baptized, the next step is partaking of Holy Communion shortly thereafter. This must be done because the Lord Jesus taught that in order to have life within you, you must partake of His body and blood
John 6:51-53 (KJB) I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Partaking of Holy Communion is a very somber experience because it is remembering that Jesus died to put away our sins by the death of Himself. In Holy Communion is the forgiveness of sins, but before partaking of it, people need to make sure that they are right with God or others whom they have wronged. The Lord taught that before you brought a gift to the church, you were first to be reconciled to a brother that you had wronged, and obviously those who refuse to do this shouldn’t be taking Holy Communion either. This is because rather than being humble enough to apologize and make up with others, they are filled with bitterness deep inside of their heart.
Matthew 5:23-24 (KJB) Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
When you sin against God or others, it is humility that will cause you to admit your faults before them. In the world, numerous places of authority want to get a confession out of you so they can fine you or throw you in jail, but that’s not how it works among Christians in the Church of Christ Jesus. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. We need to openly confess our faults to others, because rather than punishment and retaliation, we can be granted complete forgiveness for our sins. It’s no wonder why people run from the police, but for Christians we don’t have to run from God, we need to run to the throne of grace.
Hebrews 4:16 (KJB) Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
You must remember that when you sin against God or others, confession of faults needs to happen. Catholicism is filled with numerous heresies themselves, but they do have some things right, one of which is the confession of sins. Many forms of protestantism have cast confession out the window, feeling that they don’t have to confess their sins to anybody. Open confession to others is actually a part of the healing process, because you release your faults privately, upon the shoulders of somebody else. Obviously people cannot pray for you, unless you make them aware of the sins that you have committed.
James 5:16 (KJB) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
John the Baptist was a man of God who was listening to the private confessions of others.
Mark 1:4-5 (KJB) John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
The refusal to openly confess faults with others results from pride which is something that the Apostle James warned the church about.
James 4:6-10 (KJB) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Jesus turned water into wine, and when we partake of Holy Communion it is the physical body and the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is just as physically upon the altar as the lambs were physically upon the altars in the Old Testament. Those who cannot discern that they are partaking of the actual body and blood of Christ Jesus will partake of it unto damnation. So before partaking of the blood of Christ, confession of sins with others must take place. You must examine your own heart insomuch that you take care of matters in your life that are outside the will of God. You must have a fervent desire to walk in the light so that the blood of Christ will cleanse you from all of your sins. Partaking of communion in a state of haughty impenitence will not produce life, but the exact opposite: Eternal damnation.
1 Corinthians 11:23-32 (KJB) For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
When you judge yourself, you will be filled with self-reproach, which will cause you you to humbly approach God or others and quickly admit your faults. It’s impossible to be cleansed from your sins if you absolutely refuse to come to grips with them.
1 John 1:7 (KJB) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
What an incredible and merciful God, who pardons all of our inquiries and forgives us for all of our shortcomings. Through Him we have the hope of everlasting life, and of all the treasures that one can find in this world, there is nothing greater, than……
