Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Back in 1916, the United States was providing the allied forces with lots of munitions that would be readily available for the military. So in Jersey City, New Jersey, the Germans decided to blow up a munitions Depot. German saboteurs planted explosives in freight cars and barges that were loaded up with millions of pounds of munitions. This event has become known as the Black Tom explosion and did a lot of damage. It started numerous fires, completely destroyed some ships, and the enormous blast even damaged the Statue of Liberty.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Sabotage means to cripple or damage something in order to wreck it and destroy it. But there are many false prophets out in the world today who are attempting to sabotage the truth of the Christian faith. They are working secretly behind the scenes, and doing whatever they can in order to try to corrupt the true faith that was once given unto the Saints.
Jude 1:3 (KJB) Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
To contend means to compete in a struggle, just like a contender that you might find at a competition at the Olympics. Many years ago we had a river not too far away from our home and we used to go tubing on it. But if you fell off, the rapids of the river were sometimes so strong that you really had to fight in opposition against the stream. It took some great effort to be able to get back on that tube again. The Apostle Paul warned the church that seducers and deceivers were going to grow worse and worse, which is why we must make great efforts to strive against all the false teachings of this world.
Luke 13:24 (KJB) Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
It takes effort to be good at whatever you do, from getting out of bed, to making breakfast, or even doing some deer hunting. But the attempt to pursue the Christian Life is one of the greatest endeavors that anybody could ever begin. But in order to become successful is going to require plenty of knowledge and wisdom from Holy Scripture. This is so we can readily identify all of the false teachings and false prophets out in this world. This was why the Apostles and disciples constantly warned the church not to allow themselves to be deceived because at that point, their faith can become corrupted.
Galatians 1:6-12 (KJB) I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ..But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Paul was not a people pleaser, which means that the teachings of our faith were far more important to Him than the opinions of anybody else. He loved the Lord Jesus dearly, and his faithful and obedient heart proved that very fact. After all, that is a fulfillment of the first commandment. One must always remember that there is only one gospel, and you will find it throughout the teachings of the King James Bible. In between its covers are the doctrines of our faith, and the best defense against all of the false prophets in this world,, is a liberal dose of God’s Truth.
1 John 2:25-26 (KJB) And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
Like sneaking onto a vessel in order to sabotage it, false prophets are working actively behind the scenes to turn you away from God’s purpose and calling for you. False prophets are very religious, just like numerous Pharisees from old, but just like a fox stealing one of your chickens from the hen house, the devil wants to steal them away from the one true faith. After all, he’s been leading people away from God ever since the beginning in the Garden of Eden, and continues to do so today.
Acts 20:29-31 (KJB) For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
We must fight the good fight of faith, which will happen through Spiritual knowledge and humble submission to the will of God.
1 Timothy 6:11-12 (KJB) But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
Like reaching out for your jacket from the closet, we must lay hold on eternal life, holding on to it closely and keeping it deep within our hearts
Philippians 1:27 (KJB) Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
So we must contend for the one true faith, standing fast in the teachings of the Gospel. Each day we must continue to watch diligently, and keep on our guard, because many false prophets are roaming the Earth today, only for the purpose of committing….
