Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
It’s been starting to get a little chilly up here in Northern Minnesota and people have started to load up their wood stoves full of firewood. But sometimes you will get a few pieces of wood that are just too big to fit, so you have got to pull out the splitting maul. These are basically a sledgehammer with a sharp ax head on one end, and when you swing it, it delivers a powerful blow splitting the wood in two sections. But each time you use it, you will notice how one piece of firewood will fall to the left, and the other will fall to the right. This is because the maul will divide them into two separate pieces.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
When you possess genuine faith in Christ Jesus, your beliefs are going to be at odds with other people. Just like a splitting maul divides a piece of firewood in two, the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ are going to bring division, splitting relationships in two, especially among your own relatives.
Matt 10:34-37 (KJB) Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
You have to accept the fact that some of your relatives are just not going make it to heaven because they are in a state of unbelief and completely reject the teachings of scripture. This has gone on for thousands of years, and when they live a path of impenitence, they are going to hate those who are trying to live for Christ. People think that talking politics over the supper table is bad, but just wait until you decide to become a follower of Christ Jesus! The Lord didn’t come to bring peace on the Earth, but to divide. As the Lord taught, we must come out and be separate, and that division ultimately results because certain relatives are outside the parameters of the one true faith. A lot of people cannot understand distancing yourself from your own family members, but when you choose to become a Christian you must pick which side of the fence you are going to be on.
Luke 12:51-53 (KJB) Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
The Lord Jesus didn’t come to bring peace on this Earth, but make note that shortly before His return many people are going to follow a false Christ, and even make the claim that there is finally peace in this world. But that is the exact opposite of what Jesus came to do. There is not going to be peace in this world, because ultimately the Earth and everything in it will be destroyed and burned up. Mark my words, things are going to get really ugly, and it will be worse than the days of Noah! Because of your desire to follow the teachings of Christ, you are going to be surrounded by enemies, many of which will be readily found amongst your own blood relatives.
Matthew 10:21-22 (KJB) And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Division results because of all of the false Christianity that is so prevalent in the world today. It’s a Christianity by name only, and they are so far away from the teachings of scripture that rather than being a faithful bride of Christ, they become like the harlot spoken of in the Book of Revelations. Rather than accepting biblical teachings, they will openly reject them instead.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 (KJB) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Many times when you become a Christian, you are going to realize that your own relatives are involved with false forms of Christianity. Because of their refusal to accept biblical truth, many of them will follow their leaders blindly. This is going to result in great division inside your own families, and it all comes down to belief in the teachings of Scripture.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (KJB) For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Even when you try to convince your own relatives that they’re involved with false forms of religion, many times they will cast out your name is evil.
Luke 6:22-23 (KJB) Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
We are supposed to be filled with the wisdom of God and ultimately, it’s the teachings of our faith that is going to result in division with others. Remember that many people are going to believe that they are going to be in heaven, but will ultimately be turned away from Christ, and those who choose to serve and obey Him are going to run into much opposition from their relatives. This is because Jesus didn’t come to bring peace, but to divide, just like dividing two pieces of wood, with….
