Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the Book of Mark
Mark 2:15-17 (KJB) And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Jesus was having dinner with others who a lot of the world would consider evil and wicked people. But there is a great difference in them in comparison to the religious people of that day. They were humble enough to understand that they were sinners, and readily received His message of repentance. On the other hand, do you know who got offended with Jesus? It was the people who claimed that they believed in God, who wouldn’t listen to what Jesus was preaching, nor accept the fact that they needed to repent too! So who is the believer and who is the unbeliever? Who are those who can see, and who are those who are blind? Repentance is the key to our own salvation, and if people are not going to change their minds and submit themselves to scriptural truth, it doesn’t matter if they claim to be a Christian or not, because they will reap the same reward as the unbelievers.
Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The key to one’s own salvation is repentance from dead works, so if a complete unbeliever makes the choice to do that, shall they not judge those who claim to be believers? Look at the life of the Apostle Paul for example, who called himself the chief of sinners, but through faith and repentance God used him to write most of the New Testament that we have today. Many people of the early church were scared of him because of all of the wicked things that he had done in his past, but later on he completely changed. God lifted him up, and eventually he was judging things in the church and removing those who were impenitent. He was even fighting the battle against false prophets and Spiritual wickedness in high places.
Because Peter and the other disciples repented of their sinful past, why do others who claim that they are followers of Christ feel that they are exempt from doing the same? It’s because they are complete hypocrites, and are filled up with the same type of false religion that the Pharisees were filled with. That is the massive form of false religion that is encompassing the world today. They claim that they have hope of eternal life, but the hope of the hypocrite shall perish.
Job 8:13 (KJB) So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish:
So once again the religious people got upset that Jesus was sitting and eating with sinners, but the truth is that they were the ones who believed enough to repent! God can use anyone for His purpose, as long as they choose to repent! He can even cause the stones to cry out! People can commit the most egregious of sins, or have a litany of evil works in their past, but through repentance and Faith towards Christ, they can change, and God can use them for great things!
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (KJB) For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.
Many religious people are sitting high up in their Ivory towers today, exalted in their own pride just like the city of Capernaum, but Jesus warned that they would be thrust down to hell. Claiming to be a Christian doesn’t matter at all, what matters is repentance and doing the will of God from the heart, and if that attribute never manifests itself, then you won’t be in heaven no matter how much you want to be.
We live in a day and age where there are many women who claim to be a Christian who usurp over men and are refusing to submit to their control. They are even preaching and teaching God’s Word which is absolutely forbidden. They have attempted to change the original Church into a unisex society, without any differentiation between the roles of men and women in the sight of God, and without repentance they will perish.
I have said this numerous times on this website, but in the past, I hated the teaching profession with an overwhelming passion and told my family that there was no way that anybody would ever be able to get me to do it. But when I became a believer, I knew that I would have to learn to do the thing that I hated, in order to please Jesus. So, because I had to repent, do women out there think that they are so special that they don’t have to? How absolutely absurd! In the end it really doesn’t matter how much you claimed to be a believer, it matters about how much that you fully submitted to the will of God. People can call themselves a Christian all they want, (and I would guess that some of them will probably keep repeating that statement as they are cast away into the lake of fire.)
Religious pride is terrible because people will look down on others, rather than examining their own sinful hearts and recognizing that they are outside of the teachings of Christ. This is exactly what the proud Pharisee did, and is exactly what is going on in false forms of Christianity today.
Luke 18:9-14 (KJB) And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
So remember that it was many of the people who society considered wicked and evil who were actually convicted enough in their hearts to repent of their sinful deeds. On the other hand, many of the people who claimed to believe in the Lord were refusing to do the same.
Repentance towards Christ is the key to our salvation, and those who were ready to accept that fact, openly embraced the treatment plan, of…….
