The Load Factor

Good morning and welcome in everyone.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

There are many people who like to fly airplanes but whenever you fly, you have to know your aircraft fairly well. I say this because many of them are built differently and you really need to know their load factor. This is because planes can only handle so much stress on the wings. Every aircraft has certified load limits, and if a pilot chooses to fly faster than the designated maneuvering speed and makes abrupt turns, it can create excessive G-Forces. Some pilots get involved with aerobatic stunts, and sometimes when they push the plane too hard, it can cause something to break unexpectedly. If an Air Force fighter pilot attempted to do the same maneuvers that he does in a jet with a small prop plane, he would probably rip the wings right off the fuselage.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Like different airplanes, each of us are built a little differently, because each of us has certain weaknesses according to the flesh. But just like a pilot must know the limitations of his airplane, we must know our own limitations, so that we are not overcome by the power of sin and come tumbling down to the ground.

James 1:12-14 (KJB)  Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

To be successful as a Christian, one must be capable of enduring temptations, and understanding your own weaknesses is the first start in defeating them. Some people have been involved with drug usage, so rather than living in communities where they are readily available, they will move somewhere far away from big cities where they don’t have easy access to them. Perhaps somebody was a habitual drunk and rather than filling up the refrigerator with cases of beer, they now fill it up with their favorite soda pop. Somebody might have been a professional thief, but now they choose to walk away from those who are involved with those types of activities, and get a normal job like everybody else. Knowing your weakness and limitations can save you from dreadful consequences, both here on the Earth and eternally. Peter understood his own weaknesses, and separated himself from those who continued to live in sinful activities.

1 Peter 4:3-4 (KJB)  For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

Many people have been professional musicians, and all of their lives they led people into a rebellious party atmosphere, but now as a Christian, they devote their life and their music to lead people to praise and worship God. You do what you have to do to overcome sin, but you have to understand your own weaknesses, and they are not always the same as everybody else. Some people had to give up drinking, while others have no problem with it at all. Some people have to give up coffee, while others use it with moderation. Some people are tempted sexually, while other people like the Apostle Paul had no desire for women at all. Like understanding the limitations of your airplane, we must understand our own limitations. If you choose to fly recklessly, and without any fear of the consequences, then your plane can come crashing down to the ground, and be quickly destroyed in the process.

Galatians 6:7-8 (KJB)  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

When we overcome the desires of the carnal nature, God is going to reward us!

Revelation 21:7 (KJB)  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Many people who claim to be Christians might have a willing heart, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to have a great finish. The facts are that we must continually deal with the weaknesses of our flesh. God grants us his Holy Spirit through faith, but like two countries at war, the things of the flesh will constantly war against the soul, trying to tempt you at your weakest points. This is why you must understand them, so you can steer clear of them.

Matthew 26:41 (KJB)  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Galatians 5:16-17 (KJB)  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

The battle between flesh and Spirit is spoken of by the Apostle Paul in the following passage.

Romans 7:15-25 (KJB)  For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Temptations and lusts come from deep inside of a man, but they can be overcome by the power of the Holy Spirit and by making the proper decisions in the faith. We must recognize our own weaknesses and make sure not to overcharge the heart, by understanding the limitations of our own plane, and not exceeding……
