Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
I grew up on a lake, and I can remember one night when we had an incredible thunderstorm with ferocious winds that toppled over some trees and flipped over some things out in the front yard. The next afternoon we spent a lot of time after school picking up branches and cleaning the yard, but after that I decided to take a ride in the canoe to cool off on that hot afternoon. The only problem is that when I got down to the beach, it was nowhere to be found, so I decided to flip over our big boat and go out onto the lake to look for it. I searched for about a half an hour until I finally located it shoved up against some fallen trees and surrounded by an area of thick heavy weeds. The winds had blown so hard that night that it had pushed it from the safety of our home and all the way over to the opposite side of the lake!
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
We must never allow ourselves to be carried away from the teachings of Holy Scripture. Like a tempest, false prophets will try to lead you away from obedience to the faith and blow you around with the winds of heretical and false doctrine.
Ephesians 4:14-15 (KJB) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Throughout the scriptures, the Apostles were constantly warning the church not to be deceived, and when you are deceived you are misled, which in most situations happens because of outright lies or creating false narratives. A lot of the time, false prophets will do this in order to manipulate you so you believe them rather than the Truth. The devil is the father of lies and has been doing this ever since the Garden of Eden when he seduced Eve to believe Him rather than God. We are currently living in a world that is filled with the same type of like-minded deceivers, and it will continue to get worse, right up until the return of our Lord Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:13 (KJB) But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
Many people will be led astray simply because of their complete ignorance to the teachings of scripture, but I want you to understand that ignorance does not save a Christian. Time and time again, the Apostles taught that they didn’t want the church to be ignorant, but be filled with both the knowledge and wisdom of God. Having a good understanding of God’s Holy Word bolsters our defense against all of the lies of this world.
Colossians 1:9 (KJB) For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
We are in a day and age when the world is filled with a plethora of false prophets who are preaching a false form of Christianity, and Jesus forewarned that many of them were going to rise and deceive others.
Matthew 24:11 (KJB) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
There is a huge form of false Christianity that is on the rise, led by deceivers who have women preaching and teaching scripture, and reject many of the doctrines that are found in the New Testament. Many people will wander away from biblical instruction and then become actively involved in these groups, and when this happens, they are no longer sitting in a true church, but they have become members of the congregation of the Dead.
Proverbs 21:16 (KJB) The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
It’s only going to get worse, because false Christianity will continually grow bigger, just like a lawn that is overrun with weeds. Many people who have been educated in Scripture will eventually reject some of the things that they have been taught and believe fables instead.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 (KJB) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
When they do this, they are an antichrist, and many false churches are run by people such as these today. I’m not alone on this because it has been well documented for centuries. These are people who rather than submitting to the teachings of scripture, abandon the one true faith and join up with others who tell them exactly the things that they want to hear. The Apostle John spoke about these types of people.
1 John 2:19 (KJB) They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
When these people walk off on the teachings of scripture, it is a fulfillment of God’s will. This is because He is removing the dead branches in order to bring forth fruitfulness in others. If people are genuinely going to reject biblical truth, then God will cause them to believe a lie instead and because of this, they will join up with all types of heretics and false prophets who will march them right into the lake of fire. They might cry out Lord, Lord at the judgment, but people such as these will not be spared from the fury of His wrath.
2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (KJB) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
We are not to be like young children who can easily be deceived, but grow up in the doctrines of our faith. When we are filled with the knowledge of God, the devil will have a hard time trying to lead us in a different direction. Look up, because the storm is already upon us and many false prophets will try to lead you astray. Just remember to keep your heads in the game and your minds on His Word, so that you are never carried across the lake, by……
