Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
I remember when I was a young child, our family took a Saturday morning trip to Duluth Minnesota for a day of shopping. The first thing that we did was go to the hobby store because we had a lot of slot cars and electric trains back home that were in desperate need of parts and supplies. When we were finally finished, we picked up some snacks and then eventually ended up at one of the malls. As we walked through the crowded stores, I saw something that I had never seen before in my entire life. It was an escalator! Apparently the first working escalator was created by Jesse Reno, but it was first used back in 1896 as an amusement ride at the Old Iron Pier in Coney Island New York. Well, that’s exactly what we used it for, because I don’t know how many times that we rode it as the adults shopped for clothes. The interesting thing about an escalator is that they are continually moving people up or down, depending on which direction that they choose to take.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Choices are something that each of us make every single day, whether it’s the food that we pick at the grocery store, or the destination that we want to travel to. Our own salvation also comes down to the choices that we make, because just like an escalator, you will either choose the one that leads you up towards heaven, or you will step onto the one that leads you down into the pits of hell.
Matthew 7:13-14 (KJB) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
When you get on an escalator, you will either go up or down because those are the only two options that are available. Likewise, there are only two options in the scriptures that are available to us, as Jesus taught, to repent or perish. You will either repent, or you won’t. You either obey Him, or you don’t. God didn’t make us robots, which means that we can make our own decisions as to whether or not we are going to serve Him, but the choices that you make will ultimately result in arriving at two completely different destinations. You must choose wisely because God is perfectly just, and make no mistake about it, He is going to reward the righteous and punish the wicked.
Romans 2:5-11 (KJB) But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.
Some people will quickly say that if God loves us, why would he throw people into an everlasting lake of fire? This is because they are wicked and evil and never really loved His Son Jesus enough to turn from their evil works, and repent of their sins. As I’ve said many times before, when people are thrown into the lake of fire, they will never be able to say that God didn’t love them. It is they who chose not to love God and serve Him from the heart, and as far as the lake of fire is concerned, they had it coming.
Matthew 7:21 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Life is a combination of choices, and depending on the ones that you make, you will either be rewarded by God or punished. Consider the following examples…..
Moses choice to leave Egypt in order to seek the Lord, and he was blessed by God. Noah obeyed and chose to build an ark, and he was blessed by God. Abel chose to give God a better sacrifice than Cain, and he was blessed by God. On the other hand, Pharaoh chose to rebel against God, and he was punished because of it. Cain chose to kill his brother, and he was punished because of it. Lot’s wife turned away from her own husband and looked back to Sodom, and she was punished because of it. So the choices that you make one way or the other are going to result in consequences with God either good or bad. God is not mocked, and those who diligently seek Him will be rewarded, but those who treat him with contempt and rebellion will receive the due reward for their evil works.
Galatians 6:7 (KJB) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Like the old saying goes, what goes around comes around.
Job 4:8 (KJB) Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
God does not treat anybody special, whether they claim to be a Christian or not. He’s going to judge everybody by their works, whether they are good or evil.
Colossians 3:25 (KJB) But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
Our own salvation depends greatly on making the right choices in the sight of God.
Joshua 24:15 (KJB) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Each of us will have to make our own decisions in regards to our own salvation, but whatever choice that you make will result in Everlasting consequences. Just make sure that you seriously consider that, the next time that you step onto,……
…….The Escalator
