Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
There are many people in this world who will fight vigorously in the defense of many different causes. For example, a lot of people really like animals, so they will speak out on their behalf and try to keep certain ones from going extinct. Other people who really enjoy the woods will speak out about the need to replant clear cut areas, so that the forests don’t disappear from being over-logged. Even in places of government, people will rise up in defense of their country’s Constitution, by standing up against any infractions against it.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
A patriot is defined as a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against any enemies, but there is a great difference between Earthly Patriots and Heavenly ones. This is because while some are focused on the temporal kingdoms of this world, the servants of Christ Jesus are focused on protecting and defending the things concerning the teachings of the New Testament faith, and the Everlasting Kingdom of God.
Hebrews 11:16 (KJB) But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
The Apostle Paul, along with other disciples of Christ were Divine Patriots, rising up whenever there were heretical and misleading infractions against the teachings of the one true faith. In many ways the teachings of the King James Bible are like a Heavenly Constitution, but the words and precepts that are contained within will remain long after the governments of this world and their fundamental precepts are gone.
Matthew 24:35 (KJB) Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Earthly soldiers will rise up and defend Earthly governments, but men of God are soldiers who rise up to defend the teachings of our faith. They fight against infringements upon biblical truth. They fight against false prophets who are leading people into anarchy against the teachings of Christ. They fight against those who pervert the gospel, and try to amend it to fit the world. Many soldiers will get a nice retirement package when they leave the military, but the retirement package for a soldier of Christ will be one that will last forever. This is because they dedicated their lives to protecting the Eternal things of God, and because of this, they will receive Eternal rewards.
Ephesians 6:10-17 (KJB) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
When an Earthly soldier goes into battle they can only kill the flesh, but the soul is a whole different realm. This is because there is a huge difference between the temporal kingdoms of this world, and the Everlasting kingdom of God. Our precious Lord Jesus wants us to submit to Earthly authorities, because after all, they were places that were created by Him and for Him. If they choose to do wrong in their positions of authority, they too will have to account to God for the wrongs that they have committed, because just as Pharaoh found out, God is a respecter of no one. Although these places of government were created to benefit society, we must understand that eventually they will all be gone, along with this Earth and everything in it. God is creating a new Heaven and a new Earth to replace the one that we are currently living on. Divine Patriots fight on behalf of this coming Kingdom, knowing that unlike this world, the one that is coming is perfectly righteous.
Revelation 21:1 (KJB) And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 Peter 3:13 (KJB) Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Soldiers of Christ don’t fight with earthy weapons, but with the Divine Sword of Biblical Truth.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJB) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Hebrews 4:12 (KJB) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
So as Earthy soldiers defend the borders of their countries, the Apostle Paul was a patriot of God, and defending the teachings of our faith.
Philippians 1:7 (KJB) Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
Philippians 1:14-17 (KJB) And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
Like those who might receive a medal for their patriotism in this world, men of God who rise up and defend the teachings of the one true faith will be rewarded in the next one. Those who have been a good and faithful servant and unashamed of the teachings of scripture will someday receive a crown that never fades away. It will be given for their dedication and service to the gospel, and will be presented by the Lord Jesus to each one of His,……
