All Men are Created Equal

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many people in this world might feel that they are an upright and moral person who treats others decently. Don’t get me wrong, these things are good to do and need to be maintained, but the facts of the matter are that each of us are sinners in the sight of God, and the only way to begin a life of favor before Him, is to come to His Son Jesus to obtain mercy. Because of what happened in the garden of Eden, death came upon all men, and each of us were born into this sinful condition.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

When things are equal they share the same quality or status, and although there are many different places of authority in this world, every man shares one common thread of equality with each other. All of us are sinners, even from the womb.

Psalms 51:5 (KJB)  Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

The Apostle John teaches that if you claim that you have never sinned, you deceive your own hearts.

1 John 1:8-10 (KJB)  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

A lot of people will try to obtain eternal life by their deeds alone, and without faith in Christ Jesus, but let every man hear me now. Without the forgiveness that is found in the blood of Christ Jesus, men will die in their sins, because it is for this purpose that Jesus was born into this world. He is the sacrificial Lamb of God, who was sent by the Father to redeem us from our sinful condition so we could turn away from our unfaithful and wicked past and become transformed into obedient children of God. Good works by themselves are not enough to get to heaven, simply because all of us have sinned at one time or the other, and without forgiveness from God you will die in your sins no matter how many good works that you did.

John 8:24 (KJB)  I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

It’s a hard thing for many people to accept the fact that they are a sinner just like everybody else, so instead of confessing and admitting their own sinful condition, they will point the finger at everybody else for all of the evil things that they have done. People in that frame of mind are outside of God’s forgiveness, just like the proud Pharisee who was oblivious to his own sins.

Luke 18:10-14 (KJB)  Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

At one time of his life, the Apostle Paul was a Pharisee, but once he became a Christian, he was quick to admit the mistakes that he had made, and even referred to himself as the chief of sinners. He understood that none of us can enter into eternal life without the forgiveness of God, because each of us have come short of the glory of God.

Romans 3:9-26 (KJB)  What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

None of us are righteous, which is why we need God’s mercy in order to become transformed into the people God wants us to become. Jesus came into this world so that we could find forgiveness and when we are baptized by submersion into His name, all of our sins before that point, whether they are few or many, are completely expunged by God. Does that sound incredible? You better believe it! But make no mistake about it, God expects you to take the grace that He has freely given you to become completely transformed into a new creature in Christ Jesus. This means repenting of the wicked and evil deeds that you were involved with in your past, and becoming righteous by serving and obeying the Lord Jesus with a pure and obedient heart.

Many people claim to be a Christian, but some of them still won’t be able to enter into eternal life. This is because although God loved them, they never truly loved Him in return by repenting of the old person that they used to be. They may have had many religious deeds and activities, but in the end, they never truly turned away from their sinful activities.

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB)  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

So, whether its a king from a foreign land, or a pauper out planting his field, there is one place of equality that every man shares with the next, and that is that all of us are sinners who have come short of the glory of God. None of us are better than the next man, because as far as our sinful condition is concerned,….
