Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Have you ever noticed that the harder you resist places of authority, the more problems develop in your life? For example, a student may rebel against their teacher in school, but then gets removed from the classroom and sent down to the office to serve detention. A prisoner might have a light sentence handed down by a judge, but because of their refusal to conform and submit to authority while in prison, many years can be added onto their incarceration. A dad might command his son to stay home for the weekend, but in an act of complete rebellion, he takes out the new car that he bought from a friend at school, and then destroys it by wrapping it around a tree.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
The choices that you make are going to result in certain consequences with God. He will bless those who are filled with a meek and humble heart of obedience, but on the other hand, He will cast the wicked down to the ground.
Psalms 147:6 (KJB) The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
When you are meek, you are going to be very submissive to places of authority. Moses was referred to as the meekest of all men, and God used him for great things. God will lift up His meek and obedient servants, but it first requires humility and submission to His will. The Apostle Paul had done a lot of wrong things in his past, but when he finally repented, he became a loyal and meek servant of Christ Jesus. Because of this, God lifted him up, and even used him to write a lot of the New Testament that we have today. Meekness is to be submissive to the command and leadership of others, just as a wife is commanded by Christ to submit to her own husband. There is no pride in a man who expects a wife to be in complete submission to him, because it is the will of Christ. Even in the church, you must submit yourself to the elder, which is a man of God who has educated you and shepherded you in the teachings of scripture. More than likely they baptized you, and even gave you Holy Communion. These are men who were in the faith before you were, and they dedicated themselves to helping you grow in biblical truth and are over you in the Lord, and you must submit yourselves unto them because they watch over your souls.
1 Peter 5:5-6 (KJB) Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Meekness is rewarded by God, and it is a quality that one must possess if one truly wants to become obedient to the will of God. But let me forewarn you, resistance is futile, because one will only find themselves fighting against God. To rise up and rebel against the teachings of Scripture is to completely oppose the Holy Spirit of God, and those who decide to do this, will be cast down to the ground. Scripture has foretold it and it shall be done, and the higher that people exalt themselves above the teachings of the one true faith, the further their fall is going to be.
Matthew 23:12 (KJB) And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Pride is like climbing up a tall tree, and it all begins by taking that very first step of resistance. When that happens, one can be emboldened to put their foot on the next branch, and so on and so forth, until their own defiance has taken them so far up the tree trunk that the consequences for what they are doing will be severe. Many people have no fear of God whatsoever, and when they openly mock the teachings of scripture, they are headed for a huge fall.
Luke 10:17-18 (KJB) And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Proverbs 16:18 (KJB) Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Pride will manifest itself in superiority over the things of God, which is a quality that the devil is filled with. A true man of God will lead people towards obedience to the things of Christ, but on the other hand, the devil is a rebellious and disobedient usurper of God, and just like in the Garden of Eden, he will do whatever he can to lead people away from faithful obedience to the truth of scripture. Like the devil, those who choose to follow that path will be shrouded in everlasting shame.
Proverbs 11:2 (KJB) When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
There are many places of Earthly authority in this world that God wants us to submit ourselves to, but even if they choose to misuse their places of power and mistreat you, the Lord Jesus will take out His own vengeance upon them, just as he did to the Pharaoh in Egypt. If they aren’t going to do justice, then the Lord will.
Luke 18:7-8 (KJB) And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.
Romans 12:19 (KJB) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
God hates rebellion along with all of the wicked works of darkness, and when people get involved with these types of activity, whether they claim to be Christian or not, they come under the judgment of God. Be assured that the choices that you make are going to bring consequences one way or the other, because in the sight of God every man will reap what they have sown
2 Timothy 4:14 (KJB) Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:
Another point is that the folly of resisting biblical Truth will become known unto all.
2 Timothy 3:8-9 (KJB) Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was.
Scriptures are clear that the consequences with God will come swiftly, so be very careful about rebelling against God and those who have authority over you in the Lord. Never mock God or biblical instruction, lest in His vengeance you find yourself stuck in the ditch, cast to the ground, and……
