The Vomit Bag

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

A lot of people depend heavenly on certain types of transportation in this country, such as planes, buses, and even a taxi. But not everybody does well while traveling because sometimes people will have to deal with motion sickness. Think about a sailor who is tossed around in a ship during a heavy storm, or a passenger on an airplane who has to deal with heavy turbulence during a flight. But a lot of the time, you will find bags that have been conveniently placed, just in case the motion tends to make you sick to your stomach.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

In our lives, the motions of sinful living should cause each of us to become sick to our stomachs, and those who decide to become a Christian should have a great desire to avoid those types of situations in the future Some people wil completely give up flying, or refuse to ever get back on a cruise ship. Others might get extremely ill while on an amusement ride, and never get back on it again. Sin should cause that same type of reaction in one’s life, but incredibly, that’s not always going to be the case. Some people will begin to live for Christ for a certain period of time, but rather than keeping away from those things that make them sick, they will turn around and get involved with them all over again. As the Apostle teaches, in those types of situations they are no different than a dog returning to his vomit, or a pig returning to the mud.

2 Peter 2:20-22 (KJB)  For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

A vomit bag really sounds disgusting doesn’t it? It sounds gross, icky and completely repulsive, and this is because it contains things that your stomach completely rejected and naturally expelled from your body. So why would someone throw up after a meal, but then an hour later dish up with the same food that made them sick, only to sit down at the supper table to partake of it once again? Only a foolish and idiotic person would do that kind of thing, but it happens all the time with people who profess to be Christian. We are supposed to depart from iniquity and turn from darkness to light, but there will be those who completely relapse, and return to the world from which they left, choosing to walk in darkness once again, rather than abiding in the light. People who do such things will end up in a far worse condition then they ever were before, even as a complete unbeliever.

Luke 11:24-26 (KJB)  When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out..And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

If people have been educated in biblical teachings, and then choose to listen to their own council rather than the council of God’s holy Word, then they sin against the grace of God and the blood of Christ Jesus. Just as Lot’s wife reaped the vengeance of God when she turned back to Sodom and Gomorrah, God will punish all those who turn away from God, to return to the way that they lived in their sinful past.

Hebrews 10:26-31 (KJB)  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

No matter how much you may try, there is one thing that is impossible to do, and that is trying to renew somebody to repentance who purposely and rebelliously walked off on the will of God. You just can’t get them to repent, and they won’t either, because at that point they are consumed with pride and just like the devil and his angels, are completely rejected by God.

Hebrews 6:4-8 (KJB)  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

There certainly will be a lot of people who claim to be Christian and even believe that they will be in Heaven someday, but the facts are that they are going to come up short. This is because rather than opening their ears to Scriptural Truth they will reject it and choose to listen to people who preach a perverted version of the gospel instead.

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (KJB)  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Although the seed of scripture was placed deep inside of their hearts, not every one of them is going to grow into fruition.  We are called out of sinful living to walk in the light, but these people will turn from the light and return back to the darkness. They might have gotten cleaned up for a while, but then jumped right back into the mud instead, but you can know for certain that their hearts are filled up with the exact same contents, found deep inside of……
