Luke 12:13-15 (KJB) And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
Covetousness can come in many different forms, whether it’s lusting after your neighbor’s wife, wanting your neighbor’s car, or even desiring another nation’s lands or possessions. Things like this have been going on since the days of the Roman conquest across Europe, as the rapacious desire for the kingdoms of this world completely consumes one’s heart and devours the mind. But those who are filled with this attribute are no different than the religious leaders of Jesus day, who quickly justified themselves of the grievous sins that they were committing against God. Most of the time they will attempt to cover it all up, and hide the real intent behind what they are doing, but the truth is that it will all come out in the end. Beware of the many forms of covetousness, because without repentance and a contrite heart, people who get involved in these activities will most certainly become closely acquainted with the punishments and wrath of the Almighty God.
