Happy Campers

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

One weekend we took a trip up to Ely Minnesota to go canoeing, but the night before we stopped at a campground so we could leave early in the morning. After we got our tent set up, we enjoyed a nice hot meal over the campfire and began to get ourselves tucked inside of our sleeping bags. But our neighbors in the next campsite were starting to make a lot of noise, and I knew that the campground wanted people to be fairly quiet after sunset. Eventually we heard the attendant come walk down to talk to them, and a few of them got pretty upset. The campground host remained calm and stood his ground and told them that they would have to quiet down otherwise they would have to pack up and leave. Like a group of children that had to be corrected, they finally settled down for the rest of the night, although you could tell that they really weren’t very happy about it.

This reminds me of Christian Life.

Sometimes you will have to tell people the things that they don’t want to hear, which can bring forth an extremely negative response. A man of God cannot be a people pleaser and will have to tell the church the things that need to be said. A minister of Christ must tell others the things that nobody else will, and because of this you are not always going to be surrounded by a group of happy campers

Galatians 1:6-10 (KJB)  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed..As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

A people pleaser will seek the approval of the public rather than the approval of God, but you cannot do that and convert people to Christ at the same time. Preaching the truth of scripture is going to bring forth a certain amount of animosity from people who really don’t want to accept the fact that they are living and believing a lie.

John 15:20 (KJB)  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep your’s also.

John 17:14 (KJB)  I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

Don’t get me wrong, the Apostle Paul commended the church when they were doing the right thing, but there were many times when he needed to openly rebuke them in order to keep them on the narrow path of Christ. This is one reason why you must make sure that God is your first and greatest love, because when you speak out the Truth of Scripture, many times you will have to stand all alone.

2 Timothy 4:14-18 (KJB)  Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

There is a huge form of false Christianity in the world today that is preaching a perverted and heretical form of the Christian faith. Their followers have been educated by false prophets who have taught them to believe false teachings and lies. Their adherents believe them so firmly that when someone finally comes along and tells them the truth of Scripture, rather than accepting the teachings of God’s Word, they will cast out the messengers name as evil instead, which is the same thing that happened to the disciples, to the Apostles, and even our precious Lord Jesus.

2 Peter 2:1-2 (KJB)  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

We need to become pleasing unto God in all things, which means that we must do His will rather than the will of others. When this happens, biblical Truth is going to become much more important than telling others the things that they want to hear. Because of this, it’s going to cause a lot of discord, disagreement and disunity between people. The preaching of the gospel is not going to bring peace with the impenitent, but rather, hatred and persecution. In order to escape these things, many people will avoid preaching certain topics of scripture all together just to maintain unity with others, something that Jesus warned about in the following verse.

Mark 4:17 (KJB)  And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

Men of God must be filled with the salt of Biblical Truth, but those who avoid preaching it in order to maintain peace with others are like flavorless salt, which is good for nothing at all, and must be cast out.

Matthew 5:11-13 (KJB)  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Mark 8:38 (KJB)  Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

We live in an era of great darkness and it will only get worse and worse right up until the day of judgment. If you truly care about the souls of other people, you will tell them the things that they need to hear, so that they have the opportunity to turn from darkness to the light. Some will gladly receive it but many of them won’t and will cast out your name as evil, and raise up persecution against you. To truly survive as a man of God, you must have great patience and accept the fact that within the church you are not always going to find a bunch of,…..
