Stretch Limousine

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many people in the world want to make themselves out to be something, such as an important person or somebody who is extremely well connected. To do this, a lot of the time they will focus on appearances. They might dress up in expensive clothing so they stand out from others. They might drive around in a fancy car so that everyone turns their head to see who is behind the wheel. They might even surround themselves with a bunch of bodyguards to give off the appearance that they are somebody famous.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Our precious Lord Jesus is the King of Heaven and Earth, but unlike people in this world who show up in a limousine or a private jet, our precious Lord Jesus showed up in Jerusalem riding on a young donkey.

John 12:12-15 (KJB)  On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

In this current world, we are surrounded by a sea of false Christianity, places that are filled with nothing more than religious eye-candy to deceive the carnal minded. There is nothing spiritual going on among them and they will do whatever they can in order to lure people into their congregations of the dead. They will build ornate buildings and huge cathedrals filled up with stained glass windows and mahogany pews. They will make elaborate religious items and adorn them with gold and silver only to have them looted by invading armies. Even when Jesus had Holy Communion with His disciples, none of these things were used, and they met in a neighbor’s borrowed upper room. It’s a lot different than the false religion that you see in the world today. These people even wear fancy robes and outfits which were never commanded anywhere in the New Testament to be worn. Jesus referred to John the Baptist as the greatest prophet born of women, but what did you expect to see when you met him face to face? I guarantee that he wasn’t dressed up in fine robes!

Matthew 11:7-9 (KJB)  And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

Matthew 3:4-6 (KJB)  And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

Jesus made himself of no reputation, and a reputation is basically the opinion that people have in general about you. A synonym is esteem or fame. Although fame did follow Jesus because of all of His wonderful works, He did not make himself of any reputation.

Philippians 2:5-8 (KJB)  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Many military leaders will wear outfits that display all of their medals and awards. A king on the earth might wear an ornate robe and a jewel-filled crown upon his head. But how did the only begotten Son of God appear when He came to this earth? He looked just like everybody else. In fact, they couldn’t even tell who He was when they came to apprehend Him because Judas needed to identify Him by giving Him a kiss! Imagine going to a police lineup and when they walked everybody in they told you to identify the king who was standing among them. But you couldn’t do it because they all looked very similar and there was nothing in His appearance that made Him stand out in the crowd. Our Lord Jesus is the creator of Heaven and Earth, but when He walked the Earth, He appeared like a common fisherman, quite different than many of the religious people that you saw both then and now.

Matthew 23:5-11 (KJB)  But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Jesus lived an extremely humble life and was even born in a stable. The creator of all things took upon himself the form of a servant, and even washed His disciples feet.

John 13:3-15 (KJB)  Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all..For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Remember that the Lord Jesus made himself of no reputation, and appeared just like any other common person on this earth. What did people expect to see when they went out to find him? I guarantee that it was nothing like the vanity of the religious people today, who show up wearing their fancy clothes, arriving on their million dollar jets, and stepping out of the comforts of their,…..…..
