A New Addition

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many years ago, I built a very small cabin out in the woods, but when young children started appearing in our home, we needed to expand a little bit so the kids would have a place to run around. I built an addition for them but it only lasted about twelve years because the house had shifted and caused the roof to start leaking. I knew things would need to be replaced but we had absolutely no money available to do it. But I knew in my heart that God would provide because He had always helped me in the past.

It was only about a week later that somebody was giving away some free windows, so we decided to drive over there to take a look. But when we pulled into the driveway I noticed that they had pulled in a huge dumpster alongside of the house. I figured that he might be reshingling his roof, but he told me that the entire house was going to be torn down and thrown away. I told him that if he had a few weeks, we would come in there every day and rip it all apart and take it home with us. He gave us a rough schedule and we ended up going over there almost every day, taking apart the roof and removing the trusses, taking down all of the sheets of plywood from the walls and the floors, and filling up our truck with all the usable construction lumber that we could find. He was even kind enough to let us use one of his huge trailers to transport some of the larger items back to our place.

Later that month, the walls and the roof were eventually reassembled back home, but we still needed some decent insulation. Once again, I dedicated it to God’s timing and a week later someone was giving away about 60 huge garbage bags that were full of insulation. They had removed it from their home and told me we could just have it for free if we came and got it. We had so much insulation available that I think we actually put in twice what was required for our walls and ceilings.

After the roof was completed we still needed shingles, but when we went to the neighbors to pick up sone scrap one day, he asked us if we wanted a huge pile of leftover shingles that he had in his garage. Incredibly there was enough to finish our entire house, and I hadn’t mentioned a word to him that they were needed! Although it was a month or two of dealing with mosquitoes and tough lodging, we all got through it without spending a dime on the entire edition, because God had provided for us with everything we needed. This is just one of many of my own personal testimonies of how God has always provided for my needs, whatever they might have been.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

People can get pretty worked up when they don’t have the things that they need, but during those times you must have faith and trust in God’s provision. After all, a small child growing up doesn’t have any worries or concerns, because they trust that their dad is going to take care of things. Be assured that when we are faithful and obedient to the will of God, He is going to take care of us, because He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So rather than being concerned about what we temporarily don’t have, we must focus our attention on Christ Jesus, because when we seek Him first and with a full heart, He can provide for us with whatever might be required.

Matthew 6:25-34 (KJB)  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Sometimes people don’t even think about it, but God knows what we need even before we ask Hm!

Matthew 6:6-8 (KJB)  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

A lot of people tend to get pretty worried because they are constantly thinking about tomorrow or next week rather than focusing on God instead. Remember that Solomon wanted the wisdom of God more than anything else in this world, and because of this, the Lord freely gave him the treasures of this Earth. The point is that seeking God must be greater than anything else in your life. God rewards a seeking and obedient heart and is capable of providing for whatever we might need, even when that might be,….
