Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
I’ve always been fascinated by watching tornadoes, but there are some people who chase after them for a living. They will study and learn more about them and even get some incredible videos and pictures so the public can see things that we might never get the opportunity to see in our lives. But many of these storm chasers are very in tune with meteorology, and with the use of many types of different atmospheric equipment such as barometers, thermometers, and anemometers, they can use the information provided to have a pretty good idea of the places in which strong storms are likely to appear.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Throughout history, most of us have been able to tell the signs of certain approaching weather. When we hear thunder and see dark and threatening skies beginning to roll in, you know that a storm is on the way. But although most people can discern the weather, many of them cannot discern the signs of the times.
Matthew 16:2-3 (KJB) He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
To discern means to perceive and recognize something, like being able to distinguish between two different colors of paint. It’s like telling the difference between two types of cloud formations. Discernment is to understand and to grasp the meaning between certain things, or to comprehend. Most people can discern temporal things in this world, but many of them are Spiritually blind deep inside of their hearts.
Matthew 13:14-15 (KJB) And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
In order to be converted and ultimately enter into eternal life will require understanding biblical teachings and walking according to the will of God. But many people who profess faith in Christ really don’t have biblical faith at all, and you can tell it by the way that they live their lives. They have no works of repentance, nor Godly sorrow that results in a faithful and obedient heart. This is one of the reasons why this world is going to go through a period of suffering and tribulation prior to Christ’s return in the skies above. The prophecy of Esaias continues to apply even in today’s modern age, because we are still surrounded by the same types of religious people who claim to believe in the Lord but they are completely unspiritual. They claim that they believe in Jesus, but when you give them Spiritual things from the teachings of Holy Scripture, they completely reject them.
John 8:47 (KJB) He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
1 John 4:6 (KJB) We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
As most of you know, I’ve always said that one of the biggest heresies in the world today is women preaching and teaching the Word of God. The reason why Jesus never picked women to do this was because He Himself forbids it. It seems that everywhere the Lord went He was constantly calling out to men to preach, but many of them were too caught up in worldly concerns to obey His desire for them. Men who actually believe that women can teach the Bible are completely unspiritual, which is the reason why there are so many different heresies and false teachings in the world today. To put it in more modern terminology, they just don’t get it, and their minds are filled up with complete confusion. They can’t discern Spiritual things because they themselves are unspiritual, and are blind leaders of the blind.
Matthew 15:14 (KJB) Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Take a good look around you at all the people who profess to be Christian who have women teaching scripture; are actively involved with homosexuality and other forbidden activities: living in fornication rather than being married,… and the list goes on and on and on. It’s no wonder why Jesus questioned if there would be faith on the earth when He returned! The same spiritual blindness from 2,000 years ago has reappeared today, and manifested itself in false Christianity.
Acts 28:25-28 (KJB) And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
It’s amazing that many times unbelievers will have a better grasp on right and wrong then those who profess to be Christian! There is forgiveness available through Christ Jesus, but if people are not going to repent and do what is right, God is going to cut their lives short and punish them for their rebellion.
Ezekiel 12:1-2 (KJB) The word of the LORD also came unto me, saying, Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.
Noah understood what was coming in the future because of all the wickedness that was going on around him. Lot had discernment, and left Sodom and Gomorrah without ever turning back. There will be many people who claim to be spiritual, who will never see spiritual things, and to enter eternal life will require much more than discerning the weather, even when using all of the equipment that is supplied by,……
