Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Matthew.
Matthew 23:9 (KJB) And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
There are many commands of Christ Jesus throughout the teachings of the New Testament , and one of them is not to refer to anyone on this Earth as your father. Obviously this has been going on in Catholicism for many years along with many other splinter groups who originated from them. But the reason why this continues to go on is because they are blatantly heretics and usurp the title that is reserved for one person, God the Father in heaven above. Can you imagine the disciples of Christ expecting other people to call them Jesus? That’s not only blasphemous, it is absurd. Those who use the title of “father” are in an even worse predicament, because they not only disobey the teachings of Christ, but they usurp the title that belongs to the Almighty God. There is only one father, not many, and if people cannot understand the meaning of the word “one”, then they never should have been allowed to graduate from high school in the first place.
1 Corinthians 8:6 (KJB) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him;….
People have celebrated father’s day for many years, but those who are convicted by the Holy Spirit deep inside their hearts can never use that title. I knew that when I first became a believer, and could never allow anybody to refer to me in that manner. I had enough respect towards God that I knew that the term “father” was a title that was meant for Him alone. In years past, a lot of children have referred to their dad as “pa” or “sir” or other synonyms that show respect for the head of the household, and at the same time honor the title that is reserved for God only. So why do people in false forms of Christianity allow others to call themselves father? Well, let me put it to you this way.
Why do many people want to be a Christian? Why do many people decide to go into ministry? Well, a lot of the time, it’s not because they truly love God in their hearts, but because of ulterior motives. They want to step up into a pulpit we’re onto a stage somewhere because they thrive on the praise and glory of men. They want to clasp their hands together and pray in a public manner which is an open display of their own religious hypocrisy and desire for attention. (Even when the Lord Jesus prayed, He went off somewhere privately, but hypocrites need an audience.) Some people want to wear a cardinals hat, or turn heads on the street by walking around in fancy robes, which is no different then certain Jews who made large phylacteries in order to be noticed by others. That is not love for God, it is a love to be seen by men, which is complete vanity. When they came to arrest Jesus in the garden He wasn’t wearing regal robes or anything that would identify Him as some type of important religious figure. He looked just like everybody else, and the only way to identify Him from the crowd was a kiss from His betrayer. Yet look at all the pomp and circumstance surrounding false Christianity in this world today, which is the exact replication of all of the stuff that Jesus condemned 2000 years ago. So once again, why do many people join up with christianity? Ulterior motives. Why do people choose to follow many of their false prophets? Oftentimes it’s because they are impressed by all of their religious eye-candy.
As long as we are talking about ulterior motives, think about all of the people that would show up to preach if you took out a large ad in the paper explaining that you were paying $500,000 a year. You would probably have everybody and their second cousin once removed showing up for an interview. But their motive at that point would not be driven by a sincere love for God, but for the love of money. You can also be assured that when all the money dried up, they would walk off their job quickly to go find a better paying one somewhere else. But the point is this, many people will get involved with religious activities for all the wrong reasons, something that Jesus warned His own disciples about. So why do some people enter ministry? Some of them only want to be called pastor, reverend, or some other religious title, which is completely vain. When I first became a believer, I actually went into a church somewhere when I noticed somebody wearing a name tag that said the apostle so and so, and I could not believe that somebody could be that vain to actually wear something like that! Even the Apostle Paul felt so bad about what he had done in the past that he didn’t feel that it was right for people to address him as Apostle. That is called humility, and the things that he did with his life were done out of a love for God, not for a love of self-importance and religious egotism like much of the false Christianity that is taking over the world today. But let’s get back to our main point,….
As the Lord Jesus teaches, the term “father” is reserved for one person only, the heavenly father and creator of all things, and when it is used by others in this world, you can know for a fact that they have no comprehension of what it means to honor the true and living God. Jesus has always revered and honored the heavenly father, and anyone who claims to be a follower of Christ Jesus must honor Him in the same manner. “Father” is sacred terminology, and when people apply it to men in this world, whether they claim to be Christian or not, it is no different then using the sacred name of Christ Jesus dishonorably and in an unsacred manner. The desire to be called “father” is sacrilege, and those who do it are usurping the commands of Christ Jesus. People who try to justify this behavior really don’t have any respect or love for the Father of Christ Jesus, and our only spewing out their own sanctimonious hypocrisy.
There’s only one father, who is in Heaven above!
Matthew 5:16 (KJB) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
There’s only one father, who is in Heaven above!
Matthew 5:48 (KJB) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
There’s only one father, who is in Heaven above!
Matthew 7:21 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
There’s only one father, who is in Heaven above
Luke 11:2 (KJB) And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name…….
The last time I looked, each of us are still walking this Earth, and as Jesus commands we are not to refer to any man as father while we are here. It is a sacred title that is reserved for only one person,….
……..Our Father in Heaven
