Thoughts of the Day 2/23/26

Morning

James 1:2-4 (KJB) My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Whenever we are tempted, it gives us an opportunity to resist the temptation and prove to God how much we love Him. Every temptation that you overcome will make you even stronger in your faith. The Lord wants us to move on unto perfection in our lives, but that is going to require being able to resist evil desires. But each time that we resist the devil by the power of the Holy Spirit, He will flee from you!

Evening

James 2:10-13 (KJB) For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

How many of you can remember building a card house when you were children? I used to do this all the time and they used to get really tall. But normally, if you pulled out just a single card from the bottom, that’s all it took for the rest of the building to come toppling down. This is true also of the Christian Life. It’s a hard concept for many people to grasp, but if you commit just one little sin during your lifetime, then you have broken every law that has been made. That means that the man who stole the milk money is exactly the same as the one who robbed the bank.

The point is that everybody has sinned, and whether they have sinned more than others or less, it all reaps the same reward, eternal punishment in a lake of fire. In order to be saved eternally will require receiving mercy from Christ Jesus for your sins, and departing from iniquity. And just as we repented of our sins towards Christ, when people repent of their sins, we must show mercy unto them. There is a place for judgment in the church, especially towards those who refuse to admit and correct their evil ways. But when contrition appears, and they are sorry enough for what they have done to confess their faults to God and those whom they have wronged, then we must forgive them from our heart. Mercy rejoices against judgment, because it has the power to free us from the punishments of sin, but in order to obtain it will require a contrite and penitent heart, something that God will not despise.
