A Wild Goose Chase

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

Over the years I’ve had many large flocks of chickens on our property, and there have been numerous times when the children and I have had to go out and catch a few of them that had gotten outside of their fencing. But in my own opinion, I always felt that a chicken was fairly easy to catch. But some people have said that wild geese are considered an extremely difficult bird to approach. Apparently they are fairly intelligent and can quickly sense danger to alert the rest of the flock. They have great vision and can detect unnatural shapes and movements, and even poorly hidden blinds. They are so cautious that these birds will even avoid landing at certain areas that pose even the slightest of threats. Some hunters have claimed that they can be very difficult to fool, even when using the most authentic of decoys.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

We are passing through a very wicked time of history, when the world has become inundated with false prophets and deceivers, who like wolves in sheep’s clothing are only trying to deceive the flock of God. But just like wild geese, the elect of God are very cautious and can easily discern the difference between a true man of God and a decoy.

Matthew 24:23-24 (KJB)  Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

The elect of God cannot be deceived, and one of the reasons why is because they are filled up with the wisdom of God, which gives them the ability to discern the true sheep of God from the wolves. The greatest defense against all the lies in this world is a liberal dose of God’s Truth. Biblical knowledge is a treasure that is beyond compare because it will help you to distinguish between the tares and the wheat. The works of the devil can be very subtle at times, but a true man of God is very capable of detecting the vast differences between sincere followers of Christ and the frauds. The knowledge of God is the pathway to discernment.

When we are educated as young children, we are taught the differences between many different things, such as a fish and a bird. After you have been educated, it’s pretty difficult for someone to convince you that a walleye is a pigeon! So thus we conclude that education is extremely important in possessing discernment capabilities.  Many people will not be able to discern the difference between a true man of God and a false prophet simply because they are completely ignorant of biblical truth. When people refuse to apply themselves to the knowledge of God, the results are going to be devastating in their lives. What will happen is they will end up being deceived with the rest of the world, and because they rejected the knowledge of God, God is going to reject them.

Hosea 4:6 (KJB)  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee,….

Once again, the elect of God cannot be deceived because they have educated themselves in Scriptural Truth. The more knowledge of God that you possess, the more of a garrison of defense you have against all the lies of this world. People will pay all kinds of money to go off to an expensive college somewhere, but being educated in God’s Word is worth more than all of the riches that you could ever obtain in this world. This is because the Spiritual teachings that are found inside of the King James Bible can protect us from being deceived, and eventually lead us to eternal life.

Proverbs 8:10-11 (KJB)  Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

The Apostles didn’t want the church to be ignorant, and were constantly feeding the sheep of God with Spiritual knowledge, so they would eventually mature enough in their faith that they wouldn’t be deceived with the rest of the world.

Proverbs 2:1-5 (KJB)  My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

I can tell the difference between a car and a truck because I was taught the difference. I can tell the difference between a two-stroke and a 4-stroke engine because I was taught the difference. The only way to be able to tell who is from God and who isn’t is by being taught the difference, which is why we must be constantly educated in the wisdom of God’s Holy Word.

James 1:5 (KJB)  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

The more that we understand what is required in the teachings of our faith, the more we will be able to discern those who are not walking IN the faith. Some people may appear in beautiful robes and profess that they are Apostles, but it is the teachings of Scripture that help us to recognize that they are only seducers who are attempting to deceive the world.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (KJB)  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Matthew 24:11 (KJB)  And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Seducers and deceivers are going to wax worse and worse, but the elect of God will not be deceived. This is because they are filled up with the teachings of scripture, and have educated themselves to a place of discernment. The more knowledge we possess, the more perceptive we will become, being capable of telling the difference between a real bird and a decoy. The devil with all of his cunning craftiness will never be able to deceive a true man of God, and any attempt to do so will only result in,…..
