The Trash Bags

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

All throughout this world many environmental agencies are involved in the daily processes of cleaning up the environment, such as the water, air, and soil. They will remove many different types of pollutants, which are certain substances that have poisonous and harmful effects on the environment. Many of us do the same thing every spring, when we walk around our yards and the nearby ditches to pick up aluminum cans, plastic bags, and other types of garbage. But for a moment, can you imagine spending a few weeks filling up some large trash bags, only to rip them all open and pour them out onto the ground once again?

This reminds me of the Christian Life

There will be many people who do the same type of thing because they will begin the Christian Life, and will clean themselves up from the pollutants of sinful living, only to eventually return to it all over again.

2 Peter 2:19-22 (KJB)  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

This is one of many passages in Scriptures that warns about the extreme consequences for those who reject the known will of God. These are people who began the Christian Life and were baptized into the faith. They were trained in the teachings of the New Testament, and were humbly submitting themselves to God’s purpose and direction. They had escaped the pollution of sin through repentance and an obedient heart. They had turned away from the darkness of sinful living and were walking faithfully in the light of biblical truth. They were mortifying the flesh and becoming a new creature in Christ. But rather than continuing to abide on that narrow path of sanctification, they chose to revert back to the old lifestyle that they lived in the past. The wide road of sinfulness became more appealing to them then abiding on the narrow path of Christ Jesus. Rather than continuing to renounce sin and departing from iniquity, they renounced obedience to God and departed from righteousness! It’s one thing to transform from a sinner into a saint, but it’s quite another to revert from a saint back into a sinner. Those who do these types of things abide in the devil’s stomping ground, and will be punished for their rebellion. They will suffer the same fate as Lot’s wife, who was saved by God, but then eventually destroyed by Him. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living of God, for He shall consume them in the fire of His wrath, in an everlasting lake of fire.

Hebrews 3:12 (KJB)  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Jude 1:5 (KJB)  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

The Christian life is about conversion to the Truth, not reversion from the Truth, and those who decide to make that rebellious and fateful error will find themselves cut off from God.

Romans 11:20-22 (KJB) …….Be not highminded, but fear: For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

False prophets preach that salvation cannot be lost, but that is because they are deceivers who are filled up with the works of the devil. The false gospel that they are preaching goes in complete contravention to not only the teachings of Christ Jesus, but the Apostles Peter and Paul! Some SHALL turn away from the faith, and because of it, their salvation will be lost. Those who say otherwise must be marked out, because they are complete liars according to the truth of the Gospel.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 (KJB)  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJB)  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Mark 4:18-19 (KJB)  And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

There is no turning around when you decide to become a Christian, because those who do, cannot be brought back to a place of repentance. When they turn away from the path of righteousness, God shall cause them to believe a lie, and they will enter into a state of everlasting confusion.

Hebrews 6:4-8 (KJB)  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

Some people are going to go through the process of getting all cleaned up out of faithfulness to Christ Jesus, but rather than continuing in the faith, they will jump right back into the dumpster of sin all over again. But those who do this wicked deed will have it far worse than they ever did before, because it will stir up the vengeance of a righteous God. Rather than keeping themselves free from all of the pollution of sin, some people are going to jump right back into the mud, similar to those who spend weeks cleaning up their back yard, only to dump over all of,……
