Morning
Luke 18:10-14 (KJB) Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Many people feel that they are an upright member of society but at the same time, are unwilling to admit the truth that they are just as sinful as the next man. Scriptures are clear that all of us have sinned at one time or the other, and those who say otherwise are calling God a liar. Like the Pharisee in this passage, some people cannot find a place of forgiveness with God because of their refusal to examine their own hearts and admit their faults. The church was dealing with the same type of issue, and the Apostle James warned them that they needed to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God. Only through humility will you ever find forgiveness with God or others, because He will raise up the meek of heart, but will cast the wicked down to the ground.

Evening
Acts 26:19-20 (KJB) Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
When you were young, did you ever take one of your brother’s toys from his bedroom and go throw it into the dumpster? You knew that it was one of his favorite possessions but his happiness provoked you to do something very malicious towards him. Later on when you finally became an adult, you sincerely regretted how cruel that you had been to him, and now you spend a lot of your spare time purchasing toys for children in your community who have none.
These are called works that are meet for repentance, which are activities that show that you regret the wrong things that you did in your past. The life of the Apostle Paul is a prime example of someone who did this very thing. Before he became a believer, he was a Jewish Pharisee who was doing whatever he could to prevent Christian churches from springing up. But when he got forgiven for his sins, he regretted his past activities so much that it resulted in him starting up new churches wherever he went.
So what is the lesson here today? There is a huge difference between saying that you are sorry, and having works that prove that you are sorry. It is our works of repentance that are the evidence of an inward change of one’s heart, and just like the Apostle Paul, each of us will need to go and do thou likewise.
