Thoughts of the Day 3/9/26

Morning

1 Corinthians 7:15 (KJB) But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

When a woman is baptized into the Christian Life, she is forbidden from departing from her husband for whatever the reason. She must be merciful and patient with his faults just as God has been towards her. If she refuses to do this, God will show her no mercy at the judgment. Divorce is forbidden in the New Testament as taught by the Apostle Paul. (1 Cor. 7:11), and the scripture cannot be broken. Men must also abide with their wives, even when they might sin against you! Marriage can be a lot of suffering, but remember that the Lord Jesus said, how long shall I suffer you? For a marriage to last it will require a huge learning curve, because at certain times you will have to endure a lot of grief. But if your spouse chooses to leave the marriage and then files for divorce, you are no longer under the bonds of Holy Matrimony, and the sin of breaking wedlock abides on the shoulders of the one who left the marriage.

Sinful activities can certainly happen during a marriage, but it is mercy that holds it all together. Divorce is the result of an unmerciful spouse, and if they commit any sins after they divorced you, it only reveals the great lengths of their own self-righteous hypocrisy. At that point, they are no better than the one whom they left! So if your spouse walks off and departs the marriage that God brought together, you are free from sin if you choose to get married once again, but just remember that if you can avoid fornication, it’s always better to abide as a bachelor!

Evening

1 Peter 4:8 (KJB) And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

When you were younger, how many of you can remember grabbing a bucket full of crayons and spending the afternoon drawing on the brand new sheetrock that your dad had just hung on the living room wall? When he got home from work he was incredibly upset, but when he sat down in his chair, you crawled up into his arms and sincerely apologized for what you had done. The next day when he came home from work, he had a gallon of white paint and two brand new brushes, and for the next hour, the two of you had fun together painting over the entire mess that you had created.

Sins are committed occasionally, not only in the church, but within a marriage, with a neighbor, or even with your closest of friends, but the more love that you possess toward them in your heart, the more forgiving that you are going to be with them. Sometimes people will refuse to repent, and sometimes they will refuse to apologize. But like the child in the story, when they are humble and contrite for the wrongs that they have committed, it is our love towards them that will cover a multitude of sins.
