The Log Bronc

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

Perhaps some of you can remember when men would put on their cleats and walk on top of wet logs in the river,  in order to sort them and make sure that they went to the right lumber mill. They had to work in extremely hazardous conditions and icy waters, and would sort them with cant hooks by using their identifying marks that had been stamped deeply into the wood. But a lot of that changed back in the 1950s when a small boat was invented call the log bronc. The first time you see this boat it looks really kind of goofy because it sways from side to side like a fishing bobber out on a lake. It looks just like a small little tugboat but is extremely maneuverable because it can spin around sharply without flipping over. They are also known as a dozer boat, and as the name implies, they will push around and break up large groups of logs before they are processed. The log bronc will go through all of the logs and separate them accordingly, just like a sheepdog who separates the sheep from the goats.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Separating things is a daily job for many people in this world, whether it’s sorting logs according to species, separating corn from the husks, or dividing laundry for the wash. But on Judgment Day, the Lord Jesus is going to eternally separate His faithful and obedient servants from the rebellious and the wicked. Everyone shall be gathered before Him, and just like a Shepherd, He will divide the sheep from the goats.

Matthew 25:31-46 (KJB)  When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:.And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:.For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?.Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

This passage has to do with how you treated the brethren of the Lord Jesus Christ, and He clearly taught that His brethren are those who walk according to the will of God. Many people will assume that they are going to be in the Kingdom of Heaven, even claiming to have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, but because they never did the will of God from their heart, they are going to be separated forever from Him and the rest of His obedient servants on Judgment Day.

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB)  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The way that you treat the Servants of Christ is the exact same way that you treat Christ Jesus Himself. How do you think a king would feel sending out his representatives, but rather than being joyfully received they were harassed and shamefully entreated by the public? Chances are the king is going to be extremely ticked off, and would send out his army and burn up their cities! When people reproach, persecute, and cause the brethren of Christ to suffer, they are doing it to Jesus Himself, and He will punish them both now in this lifetime, and forever in an everlasting lake of fire.

Matthew 13:47-51 (KJB)  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

People might have brothers according to the flesh, but the brothers that are spoken of in this passage are brethren of the Spirit, who are men that have devoted their lives to service to Christ Jesus and the will of God. To serve and minister to them is to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Consider the Apostle Paul for example, who had to endure a lot of suffering for the sake of the Gospel, but a faithful brother in Christ Jesus named Onesiphorus reached out to help Paul during his times of need. Because of this, Paul makes mention of him in the scriptures and commended him for his kind deeds.

2 Timothy 1:16-18 (KJB)  The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Just as the chaff is separated from the wheat, someday the Lord Jesus will separate the righteous from the wicked by examining how they treated His brethren while they were here on the Earth. The way that you treated them is the same way that you treated Christ, because they are His servants and the ambassadors of the Lord.

So the next time that you go through your silverware and separate the forks from the spoons, hopefully you will always remember this, that someday Jesus will sever the wicked from among the just, like a Shepherd dividing His sheep from the goats. In many ways it’s very similar to a man separating logs that are floating down the river. Some of them will be pushed to the right while others will be pushed to the left, which are the daily duties of everyone who steps inside of,….
