Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
There was an employer who ran a statewide business that hired out local crews of men to go out and shingle people’s roofs. After the completion at one job site, the employees turned in all of their time cards. but the employer found a huge discrepancy in their paperwork. Nine of them had written down forty hours, while only one of them had written down eighteen. After calling the young man into his office, he asked him how many hours it took the crew to shingle that roof, and he explained that it was an 18-hour job from start to finish. Later on when the owner demanded answers from the rest of his employees, each of them finally admitted to falsifying their time cards, and because of this, they were immediately terminated. But through this entire fiasco, the employer recognized how honest the young man was, and because of this, he raised him up to be the head of finance over all of his companies, a job that paid him far beyond what he would have ever made as a roofer.
This reminds me of the Christian life.
As we walk through life we are always going to be confronted with decisions to make, but when you do what is right, God is going to bless you because of it.
Romans 8:28 (KJB) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
There are many sufferings and tribulations that are going to come to pass when you choose to become a Christian. This happens because many people in this world live sinful lives, and they will hate those who try to do what is good and right. The world wants you to go along with the rest of the crowd, but those who serve Christ Jesus are on a different path. When you choose to walk in goodness, righteousness and Truth, you are going to be reviled for doing so, simply because darkness hates the light.
John 3:20 (KJB) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Consider a group of kids from school who want you to come along with them to steal things from students’ lockers. But when you were asked you told them no way, and refused to take any part in it at all. But the very next week, they busted into your locker, tore everything to shreds and then lit it on fire. But whenever you choose to obey your conscience and submit to the teachings of Christ, things are going to work out according to His purpose. It was only a month later when all of the students involved were finally arrested. There was a video camera in a classroom that happened to have its door open during the fire, and everything was recorded on tape and the wicked deeds of the students were eventually exposed. So even though the student had to endure some suffering, God brought forth the results that He wanted out of that situation. You can choose to do what is right, or you can choose to do what is wrong, but everything is going to go well for you as long as you continue to walk according to God’s purpose.
2 Timothy 3:12 (KJB) Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Usually we don’t understand why we have to endure such grief and pettiness at the hands of others, but you can know for certain that when you obey your conscience, and wholeheartedly submit to God’s purpose, good things are going to result because of it. Consider the life of Joseph for an example, who found great favor in the sight of the Lord. Even when he was a slave in Potiphar’s home, God blessed the captain of the guard for Joseph’s sake. The officer knew that the Lord was with Joseph and eventually made him overseer of his entire household. Everything was going well until an evil act was put forth by the wife of Potiphar, who wanted to lay with Joseph, but he absolutely refused to involve himself in this wicked deed. Because of this, Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph, and the wrath of his master was kindled against Him. He believed the false accusations of his wife and because of this, it resulted in Joseph going to prison. But even when he was there, he found favor with the keeper of the prison, who once again put Joseph in charge of everything. But after all of the suffering that Joseph had to go through, God had a purpose for everything. Joseph was eventually raised up to high places of authority in the country and Pharaoh made him ruler over all of the land of Egypt. So you see, when you have to suffer because you choose to be obedient to God, all things are going to work together for good in the end.
1 Peter 2:19-20 (KJB) For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
Rather than feeling sad about suffering for doing what is right, you should rejoice because God has counted you worthy to suffer for His namesake.
1 Peter 3:12-14 (KJB) For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
Matthew 5:10-12 (KJB) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
So, when suffering happens for doing God’s will, He is going to turn it around into good. With patient endurance we must wait for the day, when He pours out His blessings, for……
