Hebrews 3:12-13 (KJB) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Because we have always lived off the grid, whenever we want a drink of cold water during the winter months, we will fill up a bottle and put it right next to our front door, or an interior corner of our cabin. It usually only takes about an hour, and when you come back to grab the bottle, you can already see the ice beginning to form around the edges. There have been many times that I have used two part epoxy that will begin to harden very quickly, insomuch that if you walk away from it and come back an hour or two later it’s already firm to the touch. But sin can have the same effect on a person’s heart, because when people get involved with it, it can quickly harden the heart. Disobedience to the will of God will only breed more disobedience, and like crystals quickly forming on an ice cube, the heart will quickly become cold and reluctant to repent of sin. Everyday we must be brought into remembrance of the dreadful effects that sin can have on somebody’s soul, because just like two part epoxy, once the hardener of sin begins to set, the opportunity to change one’s ways can become irreversible.

Evening
Hebrews 10:36 (KJB) For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
When people head off to college somewhere, a lot of them have great hopes of someday being able to obtain a diploma, but it cannot be achieved without putting in some diligent effort. It’s going to require regular studying of the materials. It’s going to require showing up and taking notes from the lectures. Most of all it’s going to require passing all of the tests! Only when these things are completed will you eventually obtain the diploma.
Forgiveness is a free gift from God, but eternal life is something that we must strive after in order to obtain. Like a diploma, it will only be granted to those who have repented from dead works and fully submitted themselves to the will of God. They don’t hand out diplomas to anyone, because they are a reward that is granted based upon one’s deeds and activities. We must serve and obey God each and every day, with a patient and a humble heart, because he will bless us for doing so, and in the process you will eventually reap the diploma of eternal life!
