Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was in elementary school, I can remember a few of the children going into the gymnasium storage room and grabbing a large binful of different colored vests. They would haul them outside to the playground for the students to wear when we played a game. Many times we would prepare to play kickball, flag football or soccer, and would pick out teams before the games began. Usually two captains would stand up in front of everybody, line us all up in a long row, and then begin to choose the students that they wanted on their team. When you were finally picked, you would be given the appropriate colored vest to wear while out on the field. Wearing the right color helped you to differentiate who was on your side and who wasn’t.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
But like switching the colors of your vest, some people will betray others by joining up with the opposite team. Sometimes this is referred to as a “turncoat” because people would actually turn their coat inside out, or they would put on the uniform of an enemy. These kinds of people were traitors who turned away from their loyalty and allegiance to their team, and then joined up with their adversaries instead. These types of activities are considered treasonous and are oftentimes done for financial gain, such as a government official selling military secrets to a foreign nation. It can also be motivated simply because of deep-seated bitterness and a malicious heart.
Allegiance is one’s devotion and binding commitment that is owed to somebody else, such as a wife’s unwavering loyalty to her husband, along with the lifelong commitment to her marriage. When you are filled with allegiance, you will possess an intense and oftentimes extremely affectionate dedication to a person or a set of beliefs. But a traitor is a person who once had this kind of relationship with someone, but then completely abandoned their loyal obligation to them and joined up with their enemies instead. There have been numerous adults in my own life who have betrayed me, including relatives, in-laws, family members and other relationships, but when you believe the Truth in Christ Jesus, you have to expect that this is going to happen. When it happens to you, (which it certainly will), you must remember that it is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy
Luke 21:16 (KJB) And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
This is one of the reasons why a lot of people are not going to make it to heaven, simply because they don’t want to have to deal with the persecution, betrayal and division that results because of one’s faithful obedience to the teachings of Christ Jesus. They want everyone to be happy and get along with each other, so to maintain these relationships they will abandon their loyalty to the will of God instead. Jesus warned about these types of people in the parable of the sower.
Mark 4:16-17 (KJB) And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.
Jesus never came to bring peace on Earth but to divide, and when people betray you, it is all the work of God. This is because He is removing the dead branches from your life so that you can become even more fruitful.
John 15:2 (KJB) Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
A betrayer will renounce their loyalty to somebody who they have been very close to over the years. They will abandon and forsake their allegiance towards them and then join hands up with others who hate them instead. But there is a proverb about the consequences for people who commit such wickedness
Proverbs 11:21 (KJB) Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
Sometimes growing up, we can become very attached to other people and develop very strong relationships with them. You might spend many hours a day together at work, or share regular meals with each other at the supper table. You might even enjoy one another’s company while engaging in different types of recreational activities with them. After all, Jesus and the Apostles shared these types of relationships with each other. But just like Judas, a betrayer will suddenly turn on you, which only reveals their true colors.
For example, a man will put extreme trust in his wife that she will abide by his side through thick and thin. He puts great faith in her to keep his children focused on his guidance and leadership in the home. But when a bitter wife makes the decision to depart and betray him, Satan has already filled her heart, and at that point she will completely resist his God-given authority in his household. When she makes the decision to depart her husband, she will secretly contact others who are his enemies, making certain arrangements with them in advance, and premeditate her departure. When these activities begin happening in her life, Satan is already in control of her decision-making, in the same way that he was in control of Judas when he betrayed Christ Jesus.
Luke 22:3 (KJB) Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
Matthew 26:16 (KJB) And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Now when a wife departs her husband, those who have given aid to her, and encouraged and seduced her to do this evil work of treachery are the children of the devil, for they are certainly his works, and Satan is most definitely their father.
Jeremiah 3:20 (KJB) Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
I want you to remember that there is a big difference between what Peter did, compared to what Judas did. Peter denied the Lord Jesus three times, but it was because of a weakness in his flesh. He truly loved the Lord and then later got forgiven for what he had done. Judas on the other hand, joined up hand in hand with the enemies of Christ Jesus, just like a wife who betrays you, joins up with those who hate you, and then has a celebration by taking group pictures of them all together, as they rejoice in their own wickedness. These are the works of Satan, and they take pleasure in things for which they should be ashamed, which is also a fulfillment of prophecy.
Romans 1:32 (KJB) Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
These betrayers openly mock God, and their willful sin shall not go unpunished by the Lord Jesus.
Hebrews 10:26-30 (KJB) For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Jezebel was devoured by dogs. The army of Pharaoh was devoured by the Red Sea. People will not be able to escape the justice and punishments of God, and just as Judas found out, especially upon,…….
