Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
I like to record music in my spare time, and one year my son was really taking an interest in writing some of his own songs. When he was around 8 years old, he would occasionally use some of my equipment to make up some of his own material. He would record a few tracks of keyboard, bass and drums and then sing some of his own lyrics that he had written. I just listened to one of his songs that I stumbled across just the other evening, and realized that it only had one lyric throughout the entire song. For many minutes, it repeated the same line over and over again, making sure that you understood the importance of what he was trying to say. The one sentence in the entire song was,..”Whatever you do, comes back to you.”
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
There are consequences with God for the way that you choose to live your life, something that I have taught my children ever since they were very young. When we obey God and do what is good and right, He is going to reward us. But when people choose to do what is wicked and evil, they are going to reap back the same.
Galatians 6:7-8 (KJB) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
A consequence is defined as an outcome that results from a previous action or event that you took in your life. Perhaps your dad told you that you were grounded for the weekend, but rather than submitting to him, you snuck out of your bedroom window and then ended up rear-ending somebody with the family car. If you had simply obeyed in the first place, none of that would have happened.
Perhaps you had a very important job interview in the morning, but you never set your alarm clock. Because you slept through the entire appointment, the hiring committee never bothered to reschedule you for another interview. If you had simply taken a minute to set your alarm, you might have been hired!
There are also consequences for the choices that you make concerning the will of God. Our precious Lord loves obedience, insomuch that He wants the children to obey their parents from their youth! Obedience to God’s will is going to bring forth His blessings but those who are disobedient and reprobate according to the requirements of our faith are going to reap His wrath.
Luke 6:47-49 (KJB) Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
When you plant a tomato seed in your garden you will obviously get tomatoes back. Likewise if you are going to do evil things towards others, then you are going to reap them back yourself.
Proverbs 22:8 (KJB) He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
Hosea 8:7 (KJB) For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind……
Those who choose to do evil to others are going to reap the fruit of their own labors.
Job 4:8 (KJB) Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
What’s the old saying, you made your own bed, now sleep in it. Disobedience only breeds disobedience, and those who choose rebellion against the will of God, will not be heard by Him when they pray. God shall laugh at them when their calamity comes, because they didn’t choose the fear of the Lord.
Proverbs 1:25-31 (KJB) But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
So consequences are going to happen with God, whether good or bad, and it all comes down to your decision to submit to His will or not. This is why the Apostles warned the church over and over again throughout the New Testament not to deceive themselves. In order to get to heaven requires humble submission to the teachings of Christ and the will of God, and those who say otherwise are condemned of themselves.
Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven..Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
James 1:21-25 (KJB) Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
When we love and obey God with a sincere heart, He will certainly reward you for your deeds, but be forewarned to never trifle with God, because it shows that you don’t respect or fear Him at all. This is a message of great importance, one that I repeated to my children over and over again, a simple message that can be heard in the repetitive lyrics, that are found throughout,……
