Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was very little, I used to carry around a large blanket with me all the time, whether I was playing in my bedroom or even sitting down at the breakfast table. I guess it’s just one of those goofy things that little kids do occasionally. But I can remember that for a long period of time my parents tried to remove it from my presence. As much as they tried it never really worked because I had become very attached to it and wouldn’t let it out of my sight. So what they did is slowly began making it smaller, reducing it for many months until the only thing that remained was the small little satin ribbon that had been along the edge of my blanket. I saved it for a very long time, and carried it around in my pocket for many years, as a small little remnant of what I once had.
This reminds me of the Christian life.
A remnant is a small part of something that remains, just like keeping a small piece of fabric from a larger one. But although the children of Israel are large in number, a small remnant of them shall be saved.
Romans 9:25-27 (KJB) As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
Because of the uncircumcision of their flesh, gentiles were outsiders of the things of God, but because of what Jesus did on the cross, the door of salvation was opened up unto the entire world, both Jew and Gentile alike. This is an incredible act of Mercy which is why many gentiles cry out to God as Abba Father!
Many high places of government have created laws that are in effect for a certain period of time, but then they are eventually repealed, which is exactly what the Lord Jesus did for us in regards to the legal requirements of the Old Testament. He took it completely out of the way and nailed it to His cross, repealing it just like you would repeal any other law in society. Gentiles can now have the opportunity to be in heaven through faith in Christ Jesus, no matter what nationality they may come from or what sinful past that they have lived. Praise God for His Mercy!
Colossians 2:10-14 (KJB) And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
When Jews believe in Christ Jesus, and convert to the teachings of the Christian Life, they will become a part of the remnant of God. The original Apostles of Christ Jesus were part of that same remnant, because they were all born Jewish and eventually became Christians. Even the Apostle Paul who wrote a lot of the New Testament that we have today was once a Jewish Pharisee, but eventually placed his faith in Christ Jesus, received forgiveness for his sins, and then became a faithful follower of the Christian Life.
Philippians 3:1-9 (KJB) Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Although there is a great heritage of God throughout Judaism, the requirements are the same for both Jew and Gentile alike. Apart from faith in Christ Jesus and receiving the mercies of God, there is no salvation. This is because the Heavenly Father has decreed that there is no forgiveness for sins unless people come to His only Begotten Son. Once again, the Apostle Paul was a converted Jew, who cared greatly for his brothers in the flesh, but he knew that in order for them to be saved, they needed to get forgiven for their sins just as he had. The Christian Life is far beyond a bloodline, it is about becoming a part of the Spiritual Israel of God through faith that is in Christ Jesus.
Romans 9:1-8 (KJB) I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Although there have been many Jewish people that have lived throughout the ages, a small part of them shall be saved through the election of God’s grace. In many ways it has always reminded me of tossing away my entire blanket, but hanging on to the one small remnant, of……
