Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was a kid, I received a special gift from somebody, one that was wrapped up in a small little box with a bow. When I opened it up I was surprised to find a curious new toy, one that I had never seen before. It was called a Rubik’s cube, which was invented around 1974 by a Hungarian professor. It was a small little rotating box with six solid colored sides, but you could rotate them around on their axis and mix them all up. First of all, this was made by a professor and I really wasn’t a very bright child, but I did possess a great desire to learn how to do the puzzle. After a few months, we were walking through a store, and in the magazine section I picked up a book that gave you instructions on how to solve the Rubik’s cube. I found it to be incredibly helpful because it explained step by step exactly the things that you needed to do. I think I practiced and memorized the process for about a month, and after that, no matter how many times somebody mixed it all up, I could solve the Rubik’s cube in under a minute.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
In order for me to eventually solve that puzzle, it took an instruction manual to show me how to do it. God wants us to become transformed from sinners into Saints, but in order for us to complete the task, we also need an instruction manual. Inside of the King James Bible you will find all of the wisdom and Spiritual understanding that we need in order to be transformed into what God wants us to become. No matter how many things get mixed up in our life, His Holy Word will show us what to do, just like having an instruction manual to solve the Rubik’s cube.
Psalms 119:105 (KJB) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
A Rubik’s Cube needs to go through a complete transformation in order to get all the colors on their proper sides. After all, if there are still a few color scattered in the wrong place, it’s not perfect yet! God wants us to become perfected in our faith, but it’s going to require a daily dose of His training manual. I was incredibly thankful to find a manual for my little toy, but there is no comparison to how thankful I am for the teachings of the King James Bible. It is like a compass, guiding us through the darkness of this world. It’s like a map, showing us the right way to get through a big city.
There were quite a few patterns and movements that I needed to memorize in order to complete the Rubik’s Cube, but the same is also true of the Christian faith. To become obedient to God’s will is going to require developing patterns and routines that are taught throughout the teachings of Holy Scripture. We need to grow every single day in the knowledge of God, and never be a forgetful hearer, making sure that we commit to memory all of the things that we have learned so that the man of God can become perfect in His sight.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 (KJB) And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Perhaps you have heard the term “born-again”, but this is not a one-time event, it is a process that happens over a period of time. We hear God’s Word, and then we apply it to our lives. We learn something that we didn’t know before, and then we change and correct our behavior accordingly. This doesn’t happen overnight, and will require regular consumption of God’s Spiritual food. Infants don’t become adults in one day, and baby Christians don’t become mature in a few months. To truly become born-again will require many feedings of the incorruptible Word of God.
1 Peter 1:23 (KJB) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
The essence of the Christian Life is about undergoing a transformation from sinners into Saints, and it is very much like solving a Rubik’s Cube because we are switching things around and changing things up, until everything is in its proper place. Transformed actually means something that undergoes a dramatic and fundamental change in character and condition. This process will require changing the mind, and humbly submitting to God’s directions found throughout Scripture. Only then will we find the answers for our questions, and be able to solve the quest to obtain Spiritual perfection!
Romans 12:2 (KJB) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
I don’t know how many times that I sat in bed at night trying to figure out how to finish that puzzle, but ended up putting it on my nightstand incomplete. Each day when I looked at it, it was a constant reminder of something that had been left unfinished. It’s almost like coming home from work and seeing the garage that was only half-painted. To finish the Rubik’s Cube, there was a point when it was finally done, and it’s the same in the Christian Life. God wants each of us to move on unto Spiritual perfection through repentance, conversion, and submission to His purpose. It is for this very reason that He has sent gifted men into this world, to teach and guide us, so that we can complete our faith and become blameless in His sight.
1 Thessalonians 3:10 (KJB) Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
Ephesians 4:11-15 (KJB) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
For a man to grow into the measure and the stature of Christ Jesus is the most incredibly high calling that one could ever strive for in their life. To be perfected in such a manner will require being filled with the knowledge of His will, and a meek and obedient heart. You will either be all the way in or all the way out, because there is no halfway conversion that is going to bring you all the way to perfection. We must always continue to study our manual, and apply the things that we have learned to our lives, because only then will we be able to solve our imperfections, and finally complete,…..
