Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
A lot of people up in our neck of the woods like to do some winter camping occasionally, and will head off into the forest to disappear for the weekend. They will fill up a small backpack with a few supplies, strap on their snowshoes and begin a long walk through the latest heavy snowfall. It’s a good thing to learn how to survive out in the woods by gaining the insight needed to find dry wood, understanding how to build a quick shelter, and locate any available food that they can eat directly from the wild. Some people have even ventured out into severe weather in order to train themselves how to get through extreme situations. They will use the things that they have learned to survive cold temperatures and the harshest of storms, so they can eventually make it out of the bush, and all the way back home again
This reminds me the Christian Life.
Because of prior survival training there have been numerous people who have gotten through some very difficult times. Some of them have been stranded out on the ocean, or lost out in the mountains, but their training helped them to survive through these tough situations. But the most important survival training that we could ever possess, is knowing the things that are required of us in order to enter into eternal life. When we prepare ourselves in such a manner, we will be able to survive that final day of God’s judgment, and the terror of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:9-11 (KJB) Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
Bushcraft training is learning how to survive physically, but Spiritual training is about gaining the knowledge that is needed so we can eventually reap eternal life. In many ways they are very similar, as we learn the things needed to get through certain situations. Some people who have lived in a big city might be absolutely terrified to find themselves stranded out in the woods, simply because they were never trained for it. But this is exactly what is going to happen to many people at Judgment Day, who never bothered to prepare themselves beforehand for what will certainly come to pass in the future.
Matthew 25:1-13 (KJB) Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
One of the most important things to have in your pocket when you are stranded out in the woods is a way to make fire. Although you can make a bow drill or a fire plough, many men have chosen a simpler process. They are always prepared by keeping some dry matches sealed in a ziploc bag, or a piece of flint and a high carbon striker deep inside of their jacket pocket. Having the ability to produce fire is by far one of the most important things to know when stranded out in the woods.
One of the reasons why many people don’t survive in the wilderness is because they were completely unprepared. Just like the wise virgins, we must prepare ourselves right now by training ourselves in the perfect will of God. When you are trained in Scriptural Truth, and apply it to your life, you will be able to save not only yourself, but your entire camping party.
1 Timothy 4:16 (KJB) Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
When we get heavy snowfall and extremely bitter weather, many people will prepare beforehand by putting a safety kit in their vehicle. Perhaps some candles, some stick matches, some extra blankets and even some canned food. In taking these steps, they are ensuring their own survival. As the Apostle teaches, we play a part in our own salvation, because if people are not going to do the will of God from their heart, then they are not going to survive at the judgment.
Matthew 7:21-23 (KJB) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
People can spend many years training on how to survive in the cold wilderness, but if we want to survive the final day of God’s reckoning, we must train ourselves spiritually, by learning what is required of us to obtain the world that is coming. Not everybody is going to make it out of the wilderness, and not everyone will survive being lost at sea, and as the foolish virgins found out, some people will not be prepared for the return of the Lord Jesus. Harden not your hearts, but train yourselves now for the most fearful event in history. Because to survive what is coming we must walk in the perfect will of God, so make sure that you have had all of the proper,……
