Spiritual Pulse

When we are young and begin to learn about the human body in school, one of the first things we learn about is the heart. We learn that it is the heart that is the central pump that circulates your blood throughout your body, and spreads oxygen from the top of your head down to your toes.

One experiment that my teacher had us do was to take our fingers and press them under our jaw line on our throat, so that we could feel our hearts beating and pumping blood. Once you find the vein in your neck, you should feel a strong, steady pulse as your heart beats.

This is one of the first things that an emergency worker does when they arrive at the scene of an accident. They check for a pulse to see if someone is alive, or dead.

We can do something similar to ourselves, but in our spiritual life. Are we alive in the Spirit, or are we actually dead inside? Is our faith strong and active, or is it weak and failing? We can determine this by our actions. The evidence of a strong faith will be a life filled with good works, and the desire to please Christ in everything. A strong faith will not only look like it in word, but in deed as well.

The opposite of a strong faith is a faith that only for show, but there are no works attached to it. Really, I don’t know if you could even call it faith, as James wrote in James 2:17-20.

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”

Real, true faith and the evidence of a Spirit-filled life will be there even when no one is around to watch you. Jesus had some strong rebukes for the Pharisees because they were teachers of the law, and had an outward appearance of holiness, yet their works told a different story.

Matthew 23:25-28  “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”

We see how upset the Lord was with the Pharisees for their hypocrisy. They tried to appear to everyone that they were righteous and holy, living a vigorous spiritual life, but their spiritual pulse wasn’t there. They were spiritually dead inside. They weren’t filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians to examine themselves, whether they were in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). Were they doing God’s will for them? Were they walking as Christ walked?

John 14:6 teaches us Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Without Christ, we are dead inside. Some people may be able to put on a good show, but when your really get into their lives and examine them, they are spiritually dead.

A strong pulse is a sign of a healthy heart. So how is your spiritual heart doing? Do you have a strong, active faith, filled with the signs of your good works, or is your faith weak, and failing?

In Christ,

Andrew

The Trains of Wellington

Good morning and welcome in everyone.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

In March of 1910, near Stevens pass, one event set in motion the deadliest snow disaster in U.S. history.  Two trains were stuck in snow drifts on the tracks at Wellington, when it began to rain. Just after 1am, on the side of Windy Mountain, triggered by a single lightning strike and followed by a boom of thunder, a huge slab of snow cut loose, resulting in a 14 ft high massive snow wall approximately half a mile long and a quarter mile wide speeding towards them. It slammed mercilessly into the trains, sweeping them 150 feet down into the Tye River gorge.  In all, 96 souls were lost that night in the most deadly avalanche in U.S. history. A century later, it still is.

Did you know that one small stick of dynamite can cause up to a million tons of snow to come pounding down a mountain, at speeds well over 100 mph, trapping and even killing innocent bystanders, leaving behind a path of destruction.  One single event, such as a low-flying helicopter, can trigger a massive slide that can destroy towns and communities.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

One little sin you commit, can result in huge amounts of damage caused to others around you.  It will affect relationships with friends, relatives, your spouse, and other members in the church. One small thing can put other huge events into motion.  Just as removing a single card from a card house can result in everything else tumbling down with it, your one little sin can result in an avalanche of suffering and pain in other people’s lives. I call it the domino effect of sin.

When you sin, things do not get better, they get worse. Jesus taught to go and sin no more lest a worse thing come upon you.  The best route to take is never rushing into anything that you are going to regret later.  It means that you need to think it through before you act.  In the carnal mindset, you really don’t care about other people and how your actions are going to affect them.  Someone sins, only to plan to clean up the mess, and pick up the pieces when it’s convenient for them.  It’s an act first and think later mentality which is not wise at all.

In the Christian Life, we need to think first, considering the aftermath of the way that we choose to live our lives, or the results of the decisions that we are going to make. Decisions need to be prayed over.  Good decisions are always made by first consulting scripture, and making sure that you are aligned with God’s purpose and divine plan for your life.  If it’s outside the will of God you are outside the blessings of God because blessed are they who hear the word of God and do it.  Problems will develop if it’s outside of God’s purpose, because God is not a part of your decision making.  Instead of making a Godly choice you make a worldly one instead.  This is why we need to be circumspect. You need to think things through before you do them.  You need to consider the consequences that will result because of rash actions.  You need to think about how it’s going to affect other people.

Ephesians 5:15  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Possessing this quality shows true wisdom from God.  It is being able to think before you do something, or considering something before it escapes your lips.

James 1:19  Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

To truly be circumspect I’ve always felt that it requires temperance.  When you choose to think first, that resonates with the gift of temperance in your life. If you can control your tongue, you can bridle the rest of the body.  To truly control it, you need to think very carefully before something comes out of it that can hurt or even ruin the lives of other people.

When I was in kindergarden, the children were finishing playtime and getting ready for lunch, so I decided to clean up all the toys that were spread all over the floor throughout the room.  Without thinking about it,  I opened up the outside window, and proceeded to throw all of the toys outside onto the front lawn of the school, but what I had done was only created a bigger mess of things.  One small sin can turn a small mess into a big one, in a big hurry.   Some things are better left alone, such as sin.  That is a can of worms that needs to remain unopened.

Poor choices will result in poor results. It only takes one misplaced step on a mountain face to cause you to slip and fall all the way down the hill.  It only takes one little point to lose a basketball game. It only takes one wrong turn to get lost in the woods.  One small mistake can cause an avalanche of consequences.

When Moses went into Egypt to free the Israelites, Pharaoh had a cold heart that was filled with pride.  Because of his impenitence, He ended up turning a molehill into a mountain.  He refused to listen to the command of the Lord, and because of this, it affected many other people in his life.  Because of his sin, he lost his first born son.  Because of his sin, the people of his country were smitten with plagues and pestilence.  Because of his sin, his army was swallowed up in the Red Sea.  All of these resulted because of one man’s sin against God.  The actions of one single person, resulted in a landslide of consequences.  One man fighting and screaming at God on the top of a mountain, produces an avalanche that hurts numerous other people around him.

In the church, we are all a part of the body of Christ.  When one person sins the whole body suffers.  If you choose to veer from the path of Christ, you enter into uncharted territory, and anything can happen.  If you look back in time, and had made the right choice at the right moment, numerous other painful results could’ve been avoided.  Rewards could have been reaped instead of heart-wrenching consequences for foolish behavior.  If Pharaoh had simply obeyed, things would have gone well for him.  It’s when he refused to obey God’s command, that everything went haywire in his life.

So, one small event can result in a catastrophic failure.  One small coal can ignite a forest.  One sin, like one clap of thunder, can affect and hurt the lives of many other people, producing a massive avalanche of consequences, not only for you, but for those around you.  Just like taking a wrong turn on the highway, we must turn around and go back in time to the point where we went astray. We need to humbly confess, repent and be reconciled to God and others.   We need to get back on the narrow path of Christ, and learn the simple truth that when you sin you never win.  The only thing it produces is death, sorrow and suffering, an avalanche of pain that we can best do without.

The Upper Bleachers

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture but before we do that, I wanted to think about something.

How many times have you taken your teenagers to a high school basketball game, and when you entered into the gymnasium, they noticed that their friends from school were all sitting together in the upper bleachers.  At that moment they looked at you and began to separate you from their company. You quickly tell them that you wanted the entire family to sit together and enjoy the game, but in the blink of an eye they were gone from your presence.  They were ashamed to be around or with you.

Have you ever been embarrassed of something or someone? That is what the word ashamed means. You feel awkward or uneasy about doing something or being around someone.  Have you ever known someone in school that most of the kids didn’t like? You wanted to go sit with him at the lunch table but you knew that if you did, the rest of the kids would not like you either, so you decided to keep away from him.  You were ashamed of him.  As a Christian there is one person whom we never want to be ashamed of, it is our precious Lord Jesus and the things that he taught.

Mark 8:38  Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Sometimes a person can decide to become a Christian but when their relatives start to turn on them, and hate them, they decide that they don’t want to deal with these issues anymore.  Instead of entering into the sufferings of Christ, they turn from Jesus and become ashamed of Him.  Although he repented later, at one point in his life the apostle Peter was ashamed of Jesus, distancing himself from knowing him.

Matthew 26:34  Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

When you decide to follow Jesus and His teachings, you w I’ll  have people who don’t like you, because they themselves don’t want to obey God.  It comes with the territory.  Sadly a lot of these people profess to be Christians.  When Jesus came down to the earth, many Jews also were professing that God was their father, yet some participated in the unjust death of their Lord and ours.  He was hated by many but was never ashamed of the teachings of His heavenly Father, even unto death.  He is our example to be bold and stand up for God’s Word as He did.

People are unwilling today to preach God’s Word because they truly are ashamed of it.  If they did, 75% of the congregation might get up and leave.  When you are ashamed, it means that you want to keep away or distance yourself from doing something.  It means to be deturred from a course of action because you fear people will shame or ridicule you.  That’s exactly what happened to the Lord Jesus on the cross.

Matthew 27:39-44  And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.  Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,  He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.  He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.  The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

They hated Jesus so much that they even wanted to kill Lazarus whom He had raised from the dead.  Jesus is the truth and to be ashamed of Him and His teachings is to be ashamed of truth.  As I have said many times before, the devil is a liar and can appear as an angel of light but he hates the commands and teachings of Christ.  He is actively attempting to get people to disbelieve and disobey them. He wants you to believe a lie because he is a liar, and the father of it.  The Apostle boldly preached Christ, completely unashamed of the truth.

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

When you are ashamed, it means to be deterred from doing something because you are afraid or fearful of difficulty or even danger resulting from your beliefs and Christ centered choices.  You may be afraid of entering into some sort of persecution, even among your own relatives. People are persecuted each day all over this planet for preaching the truth and doctrines of Christ. When you are persecuted, it means that others harass or punish you in a manner that is designed to injure and grieve you because of your religious beliefs.  When this happens, we should rejoice, because God has found us worthy to suffer for His name’s sake.

Luke 6:22-23  Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.  Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

These reactions from others bring a great blessing from God. One cannot receive these blessings if you are too fearful about taking a stand for Jesus.

1 John 3:13  Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

Many people profess the Christian faith, but they really don’t believe in what Christ taught.  They deny Christ and His Word.  This is one reason why you must never be ashamed of God’s Word. It is a light unto our path to guide us through the darkness that surrounds us.

2 Timothy 1:8  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

When you are ashamed you become hesitant in doing something. You stop or pause a course of action and become reluctant to speak. When reluctant, it means that you are unwilling to do something or you choose not to do something because you fear repercussions will happen.  Paul wanted the church to pray for him for boldness.

Ephesians 6:18-20  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;  And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,  For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Bold means fearless, brave and confident.

Philippians 1:20  According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

Acts 4:13  Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:12  For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

2 Timothy 1:16  The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

Psalms 40:9  I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.

So, are you taking a stand for Jesus and what He taught in the Scriptures? Are you speaking His Word boldly, even when surrounded by contention?  Are you speaking up for the one who gave His life for you at the cross, or are you simply choosing to sit this one out, somewhere in…..

…..the upper bleachers?

Let’s think about these things for right now, and Lord willing, we will talk with you some more tomorrow.  Till then, bye bye everybody. ❤️

Go, and Sin No More

Today we are going to start off this study by reading about an incident that happened in the book of John. John 8:1-11 says,

“Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”

So let’s look at what happened here. The scribes and Pharisees had brought an adulterous woman before Jesus, and had asked Him whether or not they should condemn her to death for her sins. Now we should note right here that they hadn’t come to Jesus to learn from Him. The only reason why they brought the woman before Jesus was just to try to find a reason to say, “Aha! You are not keeping the law.” They only wanted to find fault with Him.

But what was the Lord’s response? He knelt down and drew on the ground. After several times of them continuing to ask, Jesus stood up, and what was His answer to their question?

“He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

That is quite a statement, isn’t it? It really makes you stop and examine yourself, and this is clearly what happened to the scribes and Pharisees. While it was written in the law that an adulteror should be stoned for their sin, Jesus took the pointing fingers of the scribes and Pharisees and pointed them back onto themselves. He made them ask themselves, “Am I a sinner?” Because if they were going to punish and condemn a woman for her sins, then they would have to do the same to themselves. After this conviction of their hearts that they, too, were sinners, one by one they left, knowing that they were guilty as well.

Jesus didn’t condemn the woman for her mistakes. He didn’t hold a stone over her head and execute judgment. Instead He said,

“Go, and sin no more.”

There is a word for what Jesus showed this woman. Mercy. In the times of the Coliseum in Rome, gladiators would fight in a brutal “sport” to entertain the crowd and Caesar, and if one of the gladiators was defeated by the other, the Caesar had the opportunity to spare the life with a single, simple motion. Thumbs up, or thumbs down. To spare his life, or to take it. To show mercy, or not.

Jesus showed the woman mercy, just as He shows mercy to each an everyone of us each and every day. He doesn’t immediately condemn us to hell and damnation when we sin, but instead bears our sins upon Himself, and tells us,

“Go, and sin no more.”

Shouldn’t our Lord’s amazing mercy cause us to have this same effect towards others, if they sin against us? Jesus forgives us, shouldn’t we forgive others too?

Some people are too ready to pass punishment onto others that they do not stop to look at themselves first. Someone wrongs them in some way, and they immediately seek vengeance and punishment.

That is not the way of Christ Jesus. Jesus was surrounded by sinners everyday as He walked throughout Israel. How many of them did He condemn? Zero. None. Yes, someday we will all stand account for our actions before Him, but until that day arrives He continues to show us His amazing mercy and grace.

I hope today that I helped you to understand the importance of mercy and forgiveness in our lives. Without it, none of us would even live another day. Show mercy, so that you will be shown mercy. Forgive, so that you will be forgiven. Go, and sin no more.

In Christ,

Andrew

The Ellerbeck Conversion

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

For many years, people missed the open-roof feeling of early cars. After all, for hundreds of years, people had become accustomed to riding horses and buggies and liked having the wind in their face.  That all started to change in 1922 when a man by the name of Ben P. Ellerbeck finally invented something that truly would revolutionize the car industry. It was a little ahead of its time, and wasn’t used in a production model until a few years later.  This creation became so popular that many popular movies have been made using cars equipped with his conception. There are rock and roll bands that have been named after his brainchild.  It has even become a status symbol in society.

One of the earliest known cars that utilized his creation was the 1935 Peugeot 402 Eclipse Decapotable. Since then, there have been many manufacturers who have had great commercial success with His invention.  Versions of his innovation still continue to be placed in automobiles that are produced today.  What he dreamt up was a retractable hardtop system for cars, and today, these vehicles have become better known as the  “convertibles”.  In future years, these cars would be capable of conversion at the simple push of a button.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

These vehicles were aptly named because the word convert means to cause to change in form, character, or function, or to transform. We too, need to change into something different.  We must allow God to push the button inside of our heart so that we can be converted to the teachings of the Christian faith.

Matthew 18:3  And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Conversion is so important that without it, people will miss out on paradise.  I don’t feel conversion is a difficult concept to comprehend.  Many people are involved with the conversion process each and every day, but they really don’t even stop to think about it.  Have you ever put water into an ice cube tray and placed it into the freezer?  If you did, you became a part of converting something into something else. In the freezer, water is changed into ice cubes, and an ice cube serves a completely different function than water.

To become a Christian, we need to become like a convertible.  Our hearts are like a hardtop vehicle, hardened through sinful living, who must allow spiritual light to penetrate the inside of the vehicle. To correct this, we need to be re-tooled on the assembly line, and allow ourselves to be equipped with a new innovation.  We need to be able to take our hardtop down, completely laying bare the interior of our heart. Conversion requires a breaking of our hearts, like cracking an egg and throwing it into a frying pan. The cold and hard outer shell of our hearts needs to be broken before Christ.

Acts 3:19  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Scriptures teach that conversion is about changing from the old man that you used to be, to a new one.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

When something is new, it has never been seen before, or has recently been made or created.  Like a convertible we have to be capable of converting into something completely different than what we were before.  Instead of being closed off, our hearts need to open up to biblical truth, God’s grace, and to a brand new way of living.

Ephesians 4:22-24  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;  And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Renewal means to make something new; or to make new spiritually; to regenerate.  In our carnal state there is nothing good.  The old person is a corrupt sinner.  In order to inherit eternal life, we must go through a transformation.  We need to put the top down and open up our hearts and our minds to the Word of God.

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The final goal for those who become a Christian is to walk in the perfect will of God.  This is the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. In order to begin this walk towards perfection, we must first humbly admit that we are not perfect.  Without humility, lasting conversion and transformation can’t take place. It is when we humbly recognize our own faults and shortcomings that we can be empowered to overcome them through God’s grace and faithful submission to Him.

2 Corinthians 4:16  For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

The walk towards perfection is a day by day process that requires taking one step at a time.  For a concert pianist to learn their part perfectly, it requires practice. Eventually after enough practice, they can get to the point where they can play the song flawlessly.  Perfection is not having any faults.  The pianist certainly made mistakes along the way, but corrections needed to be made, hand positioning needed to be altered, and dynamics needed to be addressed.  The result of hard work and practice eventually resulted in a transformation of notes that were written on a sheet of paper, into something that was alive, floating through the air for our ears to hear and enjoy.

Colossians 3:9-10  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

We want to practice the things that we have obtained through the knowledge of God’s Word, until we can get to the point that we can keep it perfectly.  A good musician will get a part 99.5 percent perfect, but refuses to quit at that point.  They will keep at it until they can perform flawlessly.  When I was young, people told me that I wasn’t perfect, and I would never be perfect. They explained that it was a waste of time even to try.  Years later I finally realized that with that kind of attitude, you could never be good at anything you attempted in life.  Everything that you did would only be done halfway or in a mediocre fashion.

Christians are called to perfection, walking in the perfect will of God.  We prove our love for God, through faithful obedience to His commands and teachings.  Jesus pleases the heavenly Father perfectly, and this is the same way that we want to treat Him, having a perfect heart in His presence.  A pure heart will result in faithfulness, loyalty, obedience, and complete submission to His every will and whim.  To become this person, it is going to require conversion.  It’s going to demand a contrite and penitent heart.  It’s going to involve removing the hardtop, so that the light of God’s Word can shine down upon us, penetrating our hearts as we drive down a new road and in a new direction.

Perfection is a scary word to some people, but with God’s help, it’s attainable.  The man of God can become perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works, but it’s going to require some effort.  It’s going to require humility, daily practice, and diligence. We will have to put the top down and go through a complete transformation, just like many cars on the road today, including……..

Go Around It

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, I want to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

Imagine yourself going in for a job interview, but when you got there, there were approximately fifteen other people who were in line applying for the exact same position.  When your name was finally called, you sat down for your interview with the manager, but after a few minutes, you realized that you really didn’t like him very much.  When the interview was completed, he thanked you for coming in, but kindly explained that you weren’t exactly the candidate that they were looking for.

As you left the store you became infuriated because a lot of your friends worked at that store, and you wanted to be part of the same team.  When you got home, you decided to go around the manager, usurping over him, and wanted to talk to somebody higher up in the company in order to secure the job.  Well, it just so happened that your dads high school friend was the owner of that company, so you decided to use that influence and go directly to him, and go around the manager of the store.  When you talked to the owner on the phone, he told you that any hiring decision for his company belonged to the manager, and to him alone.  After a few minutes of begging for the job, he said, I trust this manager very much,

….my son knows what he’s doing.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

In order to obtain eternal life with the heavenly Father, you cannot go around or usurp over His only begotten Son Jesus, because the only way you can enter in is by following Christ and His teachings.  The Father will not allow access to paradise unless you come through His Son. Those who try to go around Jesus are nothing more than theives.

John 10:1-5, 7-11  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.  To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.  And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.  And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.  Then said Jesus unto them again,

Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.  All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.  I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.  I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

In the military, they don’t like it when you try to go around or over those who have direct authority over you.  A private doesn’t talk to the general because they expect you to go through the proper channels.  Those who do this are more than likely power seekers, and should be expelled.  These kinds of people want authority but they themselves do not want to submit and serve authority.  Its akin to a wife who refuses to submit to their husband or children who will not submit to their dad.  These actions are caused by a rebellious nature which God hates.  Without repentance damnation will follow.

Maybe some of you can think of a time when you paid for a wristband to get into the county fair, and you got to ride any ride you wanted for one price.  When you were riding the ferris wheel, you watched as people climbed over the chain link fence in order to get into the fair, but without the wristband, they were quickly ejected from the park. It happened because they refused to go through the ticket counter. Our Lord Jesus is our ticket to heaven, and the only way to paradise is through Him.  Those without a ticket will be expelled at judgement day.

The Apostle Paul was set forth as an undershepherd of Christ to watch over the church, and he was well aware that if he was wasn’t around, or even if he passed away, grevious wolves were waiting to show up to try to ruin the church.  As soon as Paul was out of the way, they would quickly appear.  Those who do such things are Satan’s ministering devils.

Many people hated Paul and the disciples of the Lord. People hated Jesus without a cause and wanted Him crucified on a cross.  Why such hatred?  Because they themselves refuse to submit and obey the God of all authority and creator of the universe.  The devil has been doing this since the very beginning.  He’s a deceiver and rebellious, and refuses to repent of his wickedness. His time is short and Jesus will destroy him with great vengeance.  The Lord will battle against him with the sword of his mouth and the brightness of this coming.  The devil will be devoured and consumed in the righteousness of our Lord.  He will have nowhere to run except into the depths and damnation of hell fire, along with all those who embody the same spirit.  Judgement is coming, repent or perish.

True undershepherds of the Lord are given to the church to protect the sheep of God. In order to access heaven you must go through Christ.  Years ago people would russel cattle and steal horses. When you steal, you didn’t go to the owner of the cattle or the horses, you simply jumped over the fence and robbed them.  The devil is at work today trying to rob sheep from the church.  The devil doesn’t want you to follow and obey Christ, but follow and serve Him.

Sheep represent people in the church.  A shepherd stands guard over the sheep. James, John and the other apostles stood watch over the church as under-shepherds of the Lord.  Their purpose was to protect the sheep from those who were trying to destroy their faith.  If you were a wolf trying to attack the sheep, you had better watch out, because they were ready to pull out a scourge or to thump you on the skull with the flat side of the broadsword of God’s Truth.  The undershepherds of Christ would call upon Jesus to flight their battle for them, just as He fought for His servant Moses.  I guarantee you, those who rebel only have one choice, to repent  and come forward for his mercy and forgiveness, or to be utterly consumed by His fire, and eternally destroyed from His presence.

The truth sheep listen to Christ.  Refusal to accept his teachings only proves one thing, that you never were of His flock. Jesus is the key that unlocks the gate to eternity.  Some people claim Jesus is there Shepherd but they refuse to follow His teachings.  Why would you call Him your Shepherd but won’t follow or do what He says?  In the civil war, they would recognize the sound of the trumpet, that called them to a specific action.  For many years I had a trumpet hanging on the side of our home that I would blow for Andrew to hear in the woods, so he would come home.  A shepherd had distinct calls for their sheep that they recognized.  The sheep of God listen and obeys when the true shepherd calls.  His name is Jesus Christ.

You might be able to get around a pothole on the highway.  You might be able to get around a fallen tree on a four wheeler trail.  You may even be able to portage your canoe around a waterfall, but there is one thing that nobody will ever be able to get around come judgment day, it is our Lord Jesus Christ and His everlasting teachings.

When it comes down to biblical truth, you can’t go over it;  you can’t go under it, and will never be able to……..

……Go around it.

Let’s think about these things for right now, and Lord willing, we will talk with you some more tomorrow.  Till then, bye bye everybody. ❤️

Let It Go!

Here is a question I bet you probably never asked yourself: how can I catch a monkey? Well, apparently, in India, the people there use a rather interesting way to catch monkeys. They will start out by taking a coconut and drilling a small hole in it, just big enough for a monkey to fit it’s hand in. Next they will put some kind of food inside of that coconut, such as rice, fruit, or other grains, and then they will set it out. The curious nature of monkeys will soon lead them to reach their hands into that hole to grab some food, but when they try to pull their food-filled fists back out, they will not be able to. To free themselves, all the monkey would have to do is let go of that food, but they won’t. They will not let go of their prize.

There is another trap that many people become caught in, and it is money. It is riches, possessions and the cares of this life that can ensnare a person and lead them away from a life with Jesus. In Mark 10 we can read about a man who, like those monkeys, wouldn’t let go of something.

Mark 10:17-25  “And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Do you see how badly he wanted to keep his riches? He clearly wanted to obtain eternal life, yet he had something else that he valued even more. Eternal life was within his grasp, yet he couldn’t bring himself to give up everything for it. His love for his money was too great, and he couldn’t let it go.

A few verses later, Peter asked Jesus what they would receive, because they had given up everything to follow Christ. “And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,

But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.” Mark 10:29-30

They had given up everything! They were with Christ all the time, giving their whole life to Him and as Jesus told them, they would be rewarded. The disciples (with the exception of Judas) weren’t focused on obtaining and acquiring wealth and possessions. The world’s goods had no hold on them because they wanted eternal life.

Mark 8:36-37  “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Nothing can be more important than the things of Christ. Nothing can hold a higher love in our lives than doing Christ’s will. So ask yourself, are you able to do what the apostles did? Are you be able to give up everything to follow Christ? Or does something else hold a higher value to you?

In Christ,

Andrew

The Master’s Bidding

Some people have excellent self motivation and are able to keep themselves busy without anyone needing to have to tell them, but others may need some direction and help finding something to do.

Do you remember the parable in Matthew 20? Well in this passage Jesus told a parable about a householder who went out to find labourers to work in his vineyard. After he had found some he directed them to go work in the vineyard, for the wages of a penny a day. A few hours later this man was going through the marketplace and found some more labourers, idle and waiting, so he hired them and sent them to his vineyard. Later he had gone out and, finding more, likewise set them to work. At the eleventh hour, with just one hour left to work in the day, he found still more labourers. The man asked them, Why are you standing here idle? To which they answered, Because no man has hired us. And just as with all the rest, he sent them to work in his vineyard.

This man gave the laborers a job, and a purpose. He gave them a direction to their day by sending them off to work, instructing them to go and work in his vineyard. Well just like that man, Jesus gives us a direction to follow. He gives us an example and shows us how we need to be living our lives.

John 15:16  “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit…”

Without a drive, focus, and dedication a business will fail. If the workers in your nearest retail store just sat in chairs and watched you walk by, there would be nothing that got done. The shelves would remain empty, and they wouldn’t make any money.

Without direction and instruction, a child can fall into many dangerous and harmful situations. Look at how many fires are started because a child is left unsupervised. They become bored and restless, and instead of applying themselves to something good, they fall into mischief. Have you ever heard the saying, Idle hands are the devil’s workshop?  Really, you can say that an idea life is the devil’s workshop as well. Without Christ’s guidance and direction in our lives, we can fall into sin, which is exactly why we need to spend some time each day praying and studying God’s word.

To each believer Jesus has given their own set of gifts and instructed us how to use them. Not to leave them sit, dormant, but to use them for His purpose, for His work. Our gifts and purpose for Christ may vary slightly depending on the Lord’s plan, but we need to follow the path that He has set before each of us.

Psalms 119:105  “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Crack open your Bible and you will soon find instruction for your life. Men, women, and children, we each have our place and our purpose. We each have our calling which we must do for Christ. So don’t sit around and do nothing; it’s time to do the Master’s bidding.

In Christ,

Andrew

Well Done!

Good morning and welcome in.  Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Philippians.

Philippians 2:12-13  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Christians are called to live obedient lives for the Lord. When you obey, it means to do the wish or the will of somebody else.It means to listen to their guidance and instruction.  Even the winds and seas obey Jesus.

Matthew 8:23-27  And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.  And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.  And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.  And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.  But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

The Philippian church was very obedient. The Apostle warned the disciples that disobedience to Gods truth was going to bring about His Wrath.

Romans 2:8. But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Christians are supposed to serve the divine nature and the qualities of the Holy Spirit, not to obey the ways of the world and the lusts of the carnal nature.

Romans 6:12-13  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

You are not supposed to let sin control you insomuch that you obey it rather than God.  If you serve and obey sin it will only lead to death, while obedience to the doctrines of Christ leads to life.

Romans 6:16-18  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.  Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Jesus taught that when someone lives in sin, they are the servant of sin but if the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.  Jesus makes us free from our past sins through His forgiveness, but through faith and conversion, we can be freed from future sins occurring, when we become sanctified, through the acceptance and application of biblical truth.  It’s simple to understand that if we do the will of God, we won’t be sinning anymore. This is conversion, becoming a doer of God’s Word.  Whenever it’s possible to get others to change their mind, you will keep them from committing numerous sins. This is what Paul and the other apostles were doing.

James 5:20  Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

So it all comes down to obedience. Are you going to obey, or will you not obey?  There’s no middle of the road when it comes to obedience, you either do it, or you don’t.

Matthew 21:28-32  But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.  He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.  And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.  Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first.

Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Noah was a preacher of righteousness.  John the Baptist was a preacher of righteousness.  The Apostles and disciples of the Lord preached the gospel of righteousness.  Over thousands of years, certain men have been called by God and sent into this world to preach the truth.  It’s a refusal to accept and believe the truth of the message that they preached, which can result in believing and accepting the lies of the world.  Jesus preached the truth of His heavenly Fathers kingdom, yet there were some who called him a liar and a deceiver.  In their stiffnecked impenitent hearts, they were mocking the truth and only deceiving themselves.

….,…..But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.  (Rom 6:17)

Paul would give the church biblical knowledge and teachings, and when they obeyed, he knew that their heart was right with God.  He knew that it was the true grace of God that they were walking in. If they chose to completely go against it, it only showed that they were disobedient and rebellious, not a good thing for a person professing Christianity because wilful disobedience is the result of unbelief.

Romans 10:16  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

In order to become obedient to the will of God, it requires faith.  We are saved by grace but you must remember that it is through faith.  Genuine faith will result in obedience to the things that Jesus commanded and taught.  I had been taught many years in my youth that you could not get to heaven by commandment keeping.  What a complete farce that was! I’m not exactly sure who said this to me, but looking back, it is the most foolish statement that I’ve ever heard, coming from the mouth of someone who professes to follow Christ.  Obedience to God is commanded throughout scripture.  If you desire the Holy Spirit, you must remember that it is given to those who obey, not to those who rebel. (Acts 5:32)

We learn obedience beginning at a very young age growing up as a child in a home.  Christian doctrine teaches that the dad is the authority figure over the entire household, and he needs to be respected and obeyed as he guides, disciplines and instructs the entire family.  He may admonish you gently, or rebuke you sharply, depending on what’s needed to correct the issue at hand.  A wife’s ministry is to serve and obey her husband in everything. The children learn to obey authority by watching their mother, as she lovingly submits to his authority.  If she becomes deceived and chooses to leave or divorce him, it’s no different than a minister in the church abandoning his post and walking off on his responsibilities to Christ. These are acts of disobedience and rebellion and certainly will not be rewarded by God.

1 Peter 4:17  ………what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

I think a lot of you already know the answer to that one.

Each of us is like an unprofitable servant, who simply needs to do our duty.  We must walk in faithful obedience towards our precious Lord who shed His own blood at the cross so that we could be converted, and become a new creature.  His heavenly kingdom is waiting for His prepared and obedient children.  We need to submit, and perform His will if we truly want to hear those words from Him at the final judgment…….

……Well done!

Plug it In

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today we are  going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of 1st Corinthians, but before we do that, I wanted you to think about something…

Each day, people drive to a local box store, and walk back to the electronics department in order to purchase something for their home computer.  It’s known as an external hard drive.  On these portable drives, they can store a lot of extra information that they don’t want to disappear or get lost.  There are fairly simple to use, you just got to grab a USB cord and plug them in.  I’ve always felt that this is similar to the Christian faith because each of us are like a portable hard drive that need to be plugged into God’s Word.

1 Corinthians 15:1-2  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

When the Apostle Paul preached the gospel of Christ, some people readily received it.  When you receive something, it means to allow to enter into your life or to learn from.  It also means to assimilate through your mind or your senses; to permit to enter into your life; or to accept it as true, authoritative and accurate. Not everybody received the truth of what the disciples were preaching, but when this happened, they were taught to shake off the dust and move on. (Matt 10:14)

In order to genuinely live the Christian life, you must be capable of receiving and accepting the teachings of Christ.  It must become authoritive in your life.  A dad has authority over his own household.  The husband has authority over his wife and children.  Jesus Christ has authority over the church.  You might rebel against your dad, or even your own husband, but to truly become a Christian you must learn to accept and submit to biblical authority.  If you refuse to accept what the Bible teaches, you will never be transformed into what God wants you to become, and thus miss out on salvation.

We are called to stand firm in our faith.  The word ” stand ” means to stop and stay in one place or to maintain one’s position. It is being unmovable like an anchor that holds your boat in place as you fish.  The word ” gospel ” is defined as something that is accepted as infallible truth, or as a guiding principle in our lives. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. His Word shows us the way to heaven, and it is biblical truth that sets us free. There is more to the Christian life then just hearing and receiving scripture, we must wholeheartedly believe it and accept it.  Salvation, in regards to it’s final completion, requires keeping in memory the things that were taught to you, so that you can walk in God’s perfect will.  How good is your memory?

Committing something to memory is to store things in your mind and retain them.  Some children go to elementary school but when they are asked by parents what they learned that day, they can’t remember.  This is why we need to exhort one another daily.  The word of God needs to be preached in season and out of season.  At times, people don’t like being constantly reminded, but it’s done so that we don’t forget what we have been told. Your dad might remind you that he is taking you camping this weeked. He might remind you every single day of the week.  This is so that you don’t forget to leave that weekend open on your schedule.  Repitition is a very good way to teach. We like to have church in the morning and evening each and every day.  This is so that we can constantly refresh our minds and constantly grow in our faith day by day.  Each day we are reminded what our duties are to God.

2 Peter 1:12-13  Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

The church is a school, it’s a spiritual College.  If you begin to skip classes, choosing to do other things with your day, growth will come to a grinding halt, and over time, you will begin to forget.  If you don’t consistantly water a seed, what’s going to happen?  If you don’t consistently feed your own animals, what happens to them?  Our minds must be fed with scripture daily, being kept at the very front of our minds.  When you forget something, it means to lose the remembrance of, or to treat with inattention and disregard.  I’ve said many times, forgetting something simply proves that it was not important enough for you to remember.  We cannot allow this to happen in our Christian faith.

Hebrews 13:16  But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

The word ” forget ” is also defined in the dictionary as not remembering something through neglect.  Forgetting what God wants us to become is spiritual neglect.  Imagine giving your child a list of things that you needed them to do, but later on they tell you that they never got them done because they had completely forgotten about them.  How does that make you feel as a parent?  That’s called being a forgetful hearer, which is someone who really didn’t care about the information that you had given them.

James 1:22-25  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.  For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:  For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.  But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

I remember certain roads in our area because I constantly drive them. The ones that I don’t use regularily, eventually will result in me not remembering the quickest way through town.  I used to travel across the country for my job, kris-crossing through many states and finding the fastest routes. At the time, I knew the roads and interstates like the back of my hand, but if I were to try doing that today, I really wouldn’t remember them at all because they are not constantly refreshed in my mind by usage.  We all forget things that are unimportant to remember.  If you don’t keep them in your mind,  they simply sink into the short-term memory banks of your brain.

Many times schools will cause teachers to take a refresher course in the classes that they teach, or get credits for continuing education.  Learning is not a one-time thing, it is a daily process, especially in the church.  When you get to far away from the Holy Scriptures, you can loose sight of the path that Christ wants us to walk. Some people begin to neglect their faith, and instead of remembering as they have been taught, they start to believe a lie instead.  They become willingly ignorant. Spiritual ignorance is a choice someone makes by not seeking God.  We must grow very strong roots into the scriptures so we can draw nutrients from them each and every day.  We need to be plugged into the Word of God so our hearts can be recharged.  God’s Word shows us the way and is a light unto our path.

We use flashlights a lot in our home.  Have you ever had a flashlight go out on you on a pitch black night?  How are you able to see where you are going, so as to keep on the trail? If you forget to charge the batteries, you can get lost. You need to fill up the oil lamp of your heart right now, and remember what God’s purpose and desire is for your life.  To inherit salvation,  you must remember what the scriptures teach so that you can do what it says.  When you get too far away from the Word, and forget it, that’s when a person can get caught up in trouble and involved with sinful living.

The word “vain” means purposeless and without any results. I call it lip service Christianity,  claiming to be one, but your works deny the Christian life because of the complete lack of desire to do what the Lord teaches.  The word vain means that it doesn’t result in anything.  Believing in vain is claiming to believe in Jesus, but it doesn’t result in a change in your life.  It doesn’t result in Godly living.  It doesn’t result in love for others.  It doesn’t result in kindness and mercy.  There is no desire to repent from dead works.  There is no contrition for misdeeds committed.  There’s no reconciliation with others you have wronged.  It’s very easy to say that you’re a Christian, it’s following the teachings of Christ that many people do not want to undertake.

Obedience must complete her course if you really want to hear the words,.. “well done my good and faithful servant.”   We must commit God’s Word to daily memory.  We must accept it as a direct source of authority from God.  We must wholeheartedly believe in what it says.  We must believe what Jesus did for us at the cross.  Each day, we must come to the church, ready for a large download of spiritual information.  All you gotta do is take your brain…..and

………Plug it in.

Let’s think about these things for right now, and Lord willing, we will talk with you some more tomorrow.  Till then, bye bye everybody. ❤️
