Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to take a look at the following passage of scripture.
2 Cor 5:18-19 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
Reconciliation basically means to restore friendly relationships with each other. In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had to be separated from the presence of God. That was caused because of sin. The Bible teaches us that all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. This is the reason why God sent His Son Jesus Christ, so that we could become reconciled to Him.
Reconciliation is the end of estrangement that is caused by original sin between God and humanity.
Estrangement is defined as a wife who no longer lives with her husband. It means to turn away your feelings or affection from someone.
Think about two friends at school who keep at a distance from each other because of something that happened between them. Reconciliation is the end of estrangement.
I want you to think about this for just a moment. Because of sin we are separated from God. We are in a state of estrangement because of our own transgressions. Reconciliation is the end of estrangement. It happens through the forgiveness that is found in the blood of Jesus Christ Our Lord. When we get forgiven for our sins, estrangement ends, and we are reconcilled unto him.
There is a false gospel in the world today that reconciliation does not have to happen in order to truly forgive somebody. They are claiming that you can forgive other people but not be reconciled to them. That would be a complete rejection of the truth of what Jesus taught and did for us at the cross. It’s almost like saying that God forgives us but he doesn’t want to be with us and He doesn’t want us in heaven. Reconciliation is the direct result of true forgiveness in a person’s heart. That is why the Apostle taught to be so forgiving in the church each other. It is forgiveness that keeps the church together. It is the direct result of true charity in people’s hearts.
2 Cor 5 18-19 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation
The Apostle Paul refers to his ministry as the ministry of reconciliation. That’s what he was doing. How can people ever expect to be in Heaven someday if they don’t go to Christ Jesus for forgiveness? When we confess sin to God we can get forgiven and begin a new relationship with him and expect to be in Heaven someday. That is the process of forgiveness. If you truly forgive someone in your heart, reconciliation is going to happen.
The Apostle teaches us that the Lord Jesus Christ has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. This is something that the Lord Jesus wants us to do toward each other.
If there is an estrangement that is happening, if there is separation between parties it is simply caused by an unforgiving and bitter heart. When we confess our faults one to another we want to be tender and forgiving knowing that we have committed sins ourselves. Being unforgiving means to hold a grudge. Even though somebody has apologized for what they have done, you refuse to forgive them in your heart.
Nowadays, people who are involved with this false gospel will claim ” I really forgave them in my heart but I don’t want to be with them anymore.”
The truth is that they never truly forgave them. If we cannot forgive the way that Christ forgives us then people will not be forgiven by God at the judgment.
Col 1:20-21. And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.
I want to take a look at a passage of scripture that really teaches us about reconciliation.
Luke 15:11-32. And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
This parable is a story about our relationship with God the Father. It teaches true forgiveness; returning to apologize, admitting your faults, apology and confession, forgiveness and complete reconciliation and remission of sin. This is the example of what God does for us and He expects us to treat others in the church in the same manner.
Can you imagine if the prodigal son had confessed his sins to his dad, and the dad told him “I forgive you”, but then told him to leave because he didn’t want him around anymore? What kind of forgiveness is that? Imagine the dad telling him he forgave him, but he was so upset that the son needed to live somewhere else.
This is the false gospel that is going on out in the world today, in fact it has gone on for many years. Reconciliation shows forgiveness really happened.
Can you imagine showing up at the gates of Heaven someday and having God saying I forgave you but I really don’t want you in heaven up here with us. These are things that people actually are teaching out there today. It’s completely heretical and wicked.
The Apostle Paul was involved with what he called the ministry of reconciliation. He was involved with bringing people back to God. Let’s take a deeper look at this parable for just a moment.
The son went out into the world and got involved with sinful living. When he came to his senses, he went back home to apologize.
It’s just like people today who are walking on the wide road. God wants to have compassion upon each of us but what we need to do is make that effort to return unto him. The first part of the Christian life is coming to your senses that you have sinned. The second part is to return back to those who you have sinned against in order to confess fault and apologize. When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I do want you to take note that In this passage today, instead of the dad saying I forgive you to his son, he showed him forgiveness by his deeds when he reconciled with him. You can say that you forgive somebody else but that is just words unless you actually reconcile with them and prove that you truly forgave them from your heart.
As soon as he confessed, the father said to his servants to bring the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet and they had a celebration right there on the spot. The relationship picked up right where it had left off in the past just like nothing had happened.
This parable is a perfect example of how God wants us to treat each other.
The church is filled up with sinners who are trying to amend and change their ways through the grace that is found in Christ Jesus. As we undergo that change you want to be forgiving with others. You want to take the grace that you received from Christ and give it to other people in the church as needed. God does not want divisions in the church. God does not want estrangement or separation, He desires reconciliation: it is the proof of true forgiveness
That’s where I’m going to stop for right now but Lord willing I’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then bye-bye everybody.♥️
