What the Bible says about Love

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus tells us where our love is supposed to be focused.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

But what does it mean to love?

Love is defined in the dictionary as “a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person, a feeling of devotion or adoration towards God.” Another word for love is “charity”. Some antonyms are “hate, dislike, or detest.”

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

Jesus says in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” So if we love Jesus, we need to love others, God first overall, and then we need to love others. We need to be kind, compassionate, tenderhearted, forgiving with each other when we make a mistake.

One of the most memorized verses in the bible, John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Gods love towards us is so great that He sent us His Son to die for us so that we can be in Heaven with Him. That’s incredible love. Just imagine how many sins Jesus forgives the world. So when someone sins against you, remember what Jesus did for the entire world. He forgave us because He loves us. Be forgiving with others, show love towards others.
