In God we Trust

Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to look at some scripture from the book of proverbs but before we do that I wanted to ask you a question.

How many of you have ever worked at a job where the boss gave you the responsibility of opening up the store each morning? You needed to get up very early in the morning and you were the only one who was going to be there to unlock the store and open it up for the day’s business. Nobody was going to call you and wake you up in the morning. Nobody was going to come and pick you up and take you to work. Responsibility and trust had been placed on your shoulders. The boss put faith in your abilities and knew that you could be counted on to deliver.

Calling something reliable means you can count on it to come through when you need it; it’s dependable

Trust is firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something; or one in which confidence is placed.

Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. As a Christian we want to place our complete trust and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

What is something that you have done with all of your heart? Maybe you play a sport and when you compete in a game you play with all of your heart. You play with all of your mind and all of your strength to achieve what you want to do.

God wants us to trust Him with all of our heart, leaving no room for doubt but completely confident in his abilities to guide us, to help us, and deliver us.

Psalms 37:4-6 – Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

look at the following passage in the scriptures about the confidence that David had in God.

1 Sam 17:37-50

37 David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.

38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.

42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

46 This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

47 And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.

48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

God wants us to be filled with that kind of trust and confidence in Him.

Proverbs 3:26 – For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Psalms 20:7 – Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

Notice how David completely trusted in the Lord to deliver Goliath into his hands. He didn’t put faith in armor or trust in a sword but He had complete confidence that God would deliver Him.

God doesn’t want us to be afraid when we come up against a Goliath situation in our own life. He wants to stand by our side and fight the battle for us.

Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Proverbs 3:6 – In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

We don’t need carnal weapons to do battle because the Lord is our shield to protect us.

Psalms 28:7 – The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalms 112:7 – He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

Many people place trust in confidence in themselves. Some place trust in other people. Those who seek the Lord put their confidence in him for deliverance.

Psalms 9:10 – And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

That’s where I’m going to stop right now, but Lord willing we’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then, bye-bye everybody. ♥️
