Good morning and welcome in today. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from Genesis but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a story.
Many years ago, I took a shop class as an elective. I think I did it to try to avoid stressing educational things like algebra, which to me if I failed, I would not graduate high school. It was not a lack of my algebra teacher’s instuction because he tried to help me, it’s just that certain things in this world were too hard for me to grasp.
I wasn’t a carpenter by nature as other gentlemen are, but was taught of them and instructed by them how to do amazing things with a few pieces of wood.
In my personal life it has always amazed me how talented some people are. It’s always fascinated me how someone can take a small item of wood and a with a few other items can turn it into something incredible. They are like a wife who turns the ingredients that she has been given into something delicious and wonderful.
When I was in high school, I spent 3 months in wood shop building an octagonal nightstand. It actually turned out handsome and functional and served my purposes for many years, thanks to the teacher.
As far as I can remember, the tabletop was 2 different kinds of wood, I think one was pine, and the other was cedar.
There was a lot of gluing involved to join these two pieces of wood together, but eventually they were permanently joined and could not be pulled apart.
I had this nightstand as much as I can recollect for almost 20 years.
For many years I would look at those pieces of wood on that table like inseperable friends. I would set my alarm clock on it, or a glass of water, but each day that went by, they remained by each others side.
Those two pieces of wood in that nightstand were joined together and could not be pulled apart and that is what a marriage is like.
When a man and a woman get married and have sexual relationships with each other, they become one flesh. They are no longer two but become one with each other.
Genesis 2:24 – Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Ephesians 5:31 – For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
When couples get married, their bodies are yoked with each other. They become one flesh. A married man and a woman share completely different duties at home and in society, but when and if you decide to get married, you do not want to enter into that marriage bond until you have seriously thought through about what you are committing yourself to. The woman becomes the forever soulmate of her husband, to serve and obey Him in everything. The husband, must never leave her or forsake her.
A husband must be the edification of undying and loyal affection to his marriage. Isn’t that truly what Jesus does for each of us in the church? He waits for each of us to apologize and to return home to Him.
He wants to forgive each of us of our sins, but what need to do is admit our faults. He wants to cleanse us and forgive us of any wrongdoing that we have committed. God does not want to punish us as much as He desires to forgive us. The reason why is because God cares for us.
Think about having two separate ingredients like milk and chocolate syrup. When you decide to mix the two together, the two ingredients become one, they become chocolate milk. In a marriage your bodies are joined together.
Matthew 19:3-8
3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
A Christian woman is supposed to treat her husband as she would the Lord Jesus. Can you imagine divorcing the Lord Jesus Christ from your life? Moses only wrote the precept about divorce because of the hardness of people’s hearts otherwise there would have been no precept needed. We are commanded to simply love one another.
A man and wife should not be separated because they are one flesh. Like my wood project, they become joined in a permanent bond.
I think that’s where I’m going to stop for right now but Lord willing we will talk some more tomorrow. Till then, bye bye everyone.♥️
