Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
There have been a couple of times during my life that I got ready to leave the house in the morning, and realized that I didn’t have my truck keys. Many times when I lose something, I don’t spend a whole lot of time looking for it, and simply wait for it to show up on its own. But vehicle keys are something that is a high priority item, and normally we don’t even realize that they are missing until the final moment that we need to go somewhere. Whenever this has happened, I began a diligent search for them, even asking other family members to come to my aid. Sometimes it would take an hour, but finding those keys was imperitive if I wanted to get into town. In each of the cases, we finally located them, but this is because we never gave up the search until we finally found them.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Finding keys is important to get to where you want to go, and for those who want to get to heaven, they need to search diligently for the key to eternal life, Jesus Christ our Lord.
“But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” Deuteronomy 4:29
When people don’t seek God every single day, their relationship with Him can slowly deteriorate. To receive the blessings of God, He must be your closest and dearest friend. If anyone is going to maintain a relationship with others here on the Earth, it requires spending quality time with them. The dangers of not devoting a sincere effort to spend quality time each day with the Lord can result in forgetting His will and purpose for our lives. We must rend our whole heart unto Him, putting Him first in our day, and first in our hearts.
“….O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” Psalms 63:1
“With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early:…..” Isaiah 26:9
Lamentations 3 ²⁵ The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Have you men ever been working out in a field, and were approached by your young son? When you asked him what he was up to, he said that he just wanted to see you and tell you how much that he loved you. To seek God with all of your heart is to be completely absorbed and consumed in your effort to be near Him.
“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” Isaiah 55:6
There is a huge difference between seeking the Lord from the heart, and religion. Many times when people pray, it is a cut and dried response to what a parent taught them to do, turning into a monotous and repetitive thing that can become as hard as a piece of dried jerky. It’s like visiting with others at the supper table who say the exact same things every night, sharing cold conversations that are not led by the heart. It’s like expecting to find heat in the wood stove, but there is no fire in the woodbox. Prayer must be driven by love for our precious Lord, who gave His own life to redeem us, but there are some who only do it to be seen by others.
Matthew 6 ⁵ And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. ⁶ But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
⁷ But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
People would seek the Lord Jesus so much, that they would travel miles in order to find Him. We must maintain a close and meaningful relationship with the Lord everyday, seeking diligently to be near Him. This is the type of heart that will be rewarded by God.
“……your heart shall live that seek God.” Psalms 69:32
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
“Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.” Psalms 119:2
“….for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12
Like a wife who turns over in the morning to visit with her dear husband, we must greet our precious Lord in the morning with our complete devotion and adoration.
“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” Proverbs 8:17
But when people don’t spend time with the Lord, they can get involved with sinful living. This was going on in the church, and the Apostle James warned them that they needed to draw night to God.
James 4 ⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
In this hustle bustle world, God must be first in our lives, and everything else can wait.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
How much of your heart is in your prayers to God? How seriously are you trying to locate Him? Jesus is the key to eternal life, which is why we need to seek Him out diligently. When you search for Him with your whole heart, then you eventually will find Him, just like looking for…..
