Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Some men in this world really wish that they could go back to the very beginning of their life and start all over again. They understand what a wretch they are, and wish that they could turn back the hands of time. But did you know that it is possible for us to be reborn?
This reminds me of the Christian life.
Obviously we cannot become young again in our flesh, but we can go through a rebirth through faith in Christ Jesus. When we believe in Him with all of our heart, He gives us another opportunity to start all over again, something that the Lord taught Nicodemus in the following passage.
John 3:1-21 (KJB) There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
In order to enter into eternal life, people must be born again through faith in Christ Jesus. This begins with water baptism, when you are fully submerged in water in the name of Jesus Christ. When this happens all of your past sins are washed away, and you rise up to become a new child of God. Baptism in this manner must happen in a person’s life, because it is a requirement in Scripture.
Mark 16:15-16 (KJB) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Acts 22:16 (KJB) And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
Acts 2:38-39 (KJB) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
God loved this world so much that He sent His Son Jesus as an atonement for our sins. Jesus didn’t condemn the world, meaning that He didn’t destroy it, but He most certainly condemned all of its sinful works and preached that men had better repent or they would perish. Claiming that you believe in Jesus is more than just lip service, it’s going to have evidence to back that statement up, and the Lord defines what true belief really is.
John 14:12 (KJB) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Those who are filled with genuine faith will come to the light in Christ Jesus and His teachings. Many people claim to be a Christian, but they turn their ears away from biblical truth, simply because they will not accept the fact that they need to change their life.
John 8:47 (KJB) He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Even the Apostle John taught the same.
1 John 4:5-6 (KJB) They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Remember that many of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day kept their distance from the Lord, because He was rebuking them for their hypocrisy and calling them a bunch of vipers! The wicked don’t want to be rebuked or corrected because they are filled with pride, so they will separate you from their company. This means they don’t want to be around you anymore because you stand for what is good and right.
Luke 6:22-23 (KJB) Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
Remember that although we can’t undo the sinful works that we have done in our past, we can have our past completely expunged by God. Like a child enters this world through an amniotic sack, we can enter into a new life with God when we go underneath the Waters of Holy Baptism. How many of you want a second chance? How many of you are going to take the steps that are needed, for……
