Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Did you ever get a good report card at school and then your dad rewarded you with a brand new bicycle for all of your hard work? Many years ago if I had a really good week on the job, oftentimes the boss would take me out for an expensive meal at the local eatery! Even when you please an earthly employer, the owner might give you a yearly bonus or increase your pay for your efforts!
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
As I’ve always taught my family, God is a rewarder, and He will most certainly compensate those who seek Him, but it’s going to require due diligence.
Hebrews 11:6 (KJB) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
How diligently do you seek after God? When you seek something, it means to go looking for, or to search after in an attempt to find. When you seek Him diligently, it is to do it in a conscientious and persistent manner. But usually people will seek after the things that are most important to them during their day. Sometimes people will drive through a town seeking to find the nearest hamburger joint or buffet, while others might find a private place to park and seek after God. Sometimes people will drop in their boat so they can go out and catch some walleye, while others do it simply to find a place of solitude and to seek after God. When God is first in our hearts, He is going to bless us because of it.
Matthew 5:6 (KJB) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Matthew 6:33 (KJB) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Many times, people will attend a church service somewhere, not because they are actually seeking God, but because they want to meet other people from the community, or sell someone a new car. When Jesus was preaching, some people were only seeking Him because they wanted some more food.
John 6:25-27 (KJB) And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
A prayer life is extremely important with God, because it shows that you are committing yourself to a one-on-one relationship with Him in private. Jesus would oftentimes go out into a mountain to pray in seclusion to God, and this is the type of prayer that is rewarded by the Heavenly Father.
Matthew 6:5-6 (KJB) And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
The Christian life is about becoming obedient to the will of God, and we want to make great attempts to please the Lord in absolutely everything that we do! This is such an incredible attitude to possess in your heart because those who have it will be rewarded by God.
Matthew 5:12 (KJB) Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Moses recognized the great rewards for seeking after the Lord.
Hebrews 11:24-26 (KJB) By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
The Apostle Paul also recognized that the Lord would reward him according to his works.
2 Timothy 1:12 (KJB) For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Those who seek God diligently will be capable of turning away from everything this world has to offer, and will receive a 100-fold reward from God.
Mark 10:28-30 (KJB) Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
To seek the Lord is to actively pursue Him rigorously and meticulously, abiding by His side and having a great desire to please Him from an obedient heart. To seek God diligently is to perform our tasks towards Him with a persistent effort and through our hard work and tireless efforts. To receive a reward from God will require faith, which is something that a lot of people don’t possess. Rather than having a heart for God, they are seeking after the things of this world instead. This world and everything in it is going to perish, but those who give themselves over to the perfect will of God are going to reap eternal life!
1 John 2:15-17 (KJB) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Never forget that there are numerous rewards from God for those who seek Him with a faithful and obedient heart, just remember that it’s always going to require,……
