James 4:4 (KJB) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
It can be very heartbreaking when your wife starts building an extremely close friendship with another man. This is because her husband no longer continues to be everything that she needs, so she will go out into the world and try to find other things to satisfy her desires instead. This is the crux of what James is trying to symbolically teach us in this passage. When we become a Christian, it is very much like entering a marriage, because the church is known as the bride of Christ. But if our precious Lord Jesus isn’t enough for you, then just like a wandering bride, you will chase after other things instead. Our love must be focused completely on our precious Lord Jesus above and beyond anything else in this world. The Apostle John warned the church not to love the world, because when anything else takes precedence over our love for Him, then you become His enemy. and commit an act of Spiritual adultery against Him.

James 5:16 (KJB) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Repentance requires confession of faults, not only to God, but a brother that you have wronged in the church. This requires humility, which is an attribute that is required not only to obtain mercy from God, but forgiveness from others as well. Reconciliation with others is commanded in the scriptures, which is to rejoin the close relationship that you had with them before the sin ever took place. Unrepented sin can cause both emotional and physical sickness, but when people are humble enough to admit their faults, then you can begin to pray for them for healing.
