Thoughts of the Day 5/21/26

Morning

1 John 1:9 (KJB) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

To confess is to openly admit and reveal something that you have done wrong. Scriptures are clear that we must confess our sins not only to God, but to others that we have wronged in the church. John the Baptist was listening to people’s confessions as he baptized them in the Jordan River. James commanded the church to confess their faults one to another. Even if you sin against a brother in the church, in order to be reconciled with them, you must humbly confess unto them, so that you can receive their forgiveness. Confession is an extremely important doctrine of the Christian Life, because it is an act of humility, and the first step towards being completely cleansed from our sins.

Evening

1 John 2:16-17 (KJB) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

There are numerous things that people can chase after in this world that ultimately will pull them away from a close relationship with God. People spend incredible amounts of hours wanting to make more money, or focus their lives completely on matters that are completely unspiritual. Why do you think a lot of sincere Christians are poor? It’s because they spend a lot of their time praying, and seeking the will of God. So when it comes down to it, our own salvation comes down to a sincere allocation of our time. Love is an extremely powerful emotion, and it can be placed upon the the Lord Jesus, or on the dollar bill. But what you seek after determines what you really love inside of your heart. It’s very easy to determine this, just sit down with a pen and a piece of paper and write down where most of your hours are spent each week. How much did you spend with God this week? Sometimes my own wife would get extremely upset because I would disappear for hours on end, but this is because my love for God was greater than her. Although our wives need daily loving attention, God must be first in our hearts, because no matter how much we care for others, only through a love for Christ jesus, will we ever be able to advance into everlasting life.
