Thoughts of the Day 6/16/26

Morning

1 Corinthians 1:10 (KJB) Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Sometimes in the church there are going to be divisions, such as when Paul told the Corinthians to separate themselves from those who were involved with the fornication that was going on amongst them. Paul wanted the church to be united together, but it is a unity that is based upon the teachings of God’s Holy Word, and the doctrines of the one true faith. We are not supposed to fellowship with impenitent people, who refuse to bring themselves into subjection to the will of God. The Apostle wanted unity, not for unity’s sake, but a unity that is based on the truth of the Gospel, and joining with others who are of a like-minded faith.

Evening

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (KJB) For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Many times when an employer chooses to hire a new employee, they will pick out the very best one out of all of the applicants. The chosen ones will have outstanding credentials, have graduated from a great school, and have a background that clearly shows that they are the best suited for the job. But God does things a lot differently than the world. Rather than picking out highly educated religious leaders as His Apostles, he picked a group of uneducated fishermen, a tax collector who was hated, and even a thief who eventually betrayed Him. But God does this for a reason, that through the power of repentance, the most sinful of men can become transformed into a new creature in Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul was one such a man, who was hated by the world but chosen by God. The Lord uses men such as these for the purpose of teaching the world that no matter how high up in this temporal place that they might be, unless they repent of their sins just as Paul and the others did, they will die in their sins. God doesn’t choose the best of the best, but the worst of the worst, so that through them will be seen, the power of faith towards God, obedience to His will, and repentance from all of the dead works of darkness.
