Thoughts of the Day 6/22/26

Morning

Ephesians 2:4-6 (KJB) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Scripture teaches us that the wages of sin is death, but to be quickened is to be made alive. When we are baptized by submersion into the name of Christ Jesus, we are raised up from death unto life, a Spiritual resurrection because He washes away all of our past sins through the riches of His grace. What an incredible act of love from Him to completely expunge all of our past missdeeds. Jesus was speaking to a Jewish Pharisee and explained to him that he needed to be born again, a birth that takes place when we are water baptized. But like an infant coming out of the womb, baptism is only the first step into the Christian Life, because we will need to be nurtured and raised up on the milk of God’s Holy Word. We must mortify all of the deeds of the flesh, and be completely transformed from a wicked wretch into a Saint of God. So you see, its not that any of us loved God while we were living in our sinful state, but that He first loved us. So embrace the love that He has for you, and reach out for the free gift of His mercies, and praise be to God, for His unspeakable gift!

Evening

John 6:24-27 (KJB) When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Have you ever had somebody show up just because you had free food? The Lord Jesus had done so many incredible things, but some of them were only seeking Him because they wanted something to eat. When you seek after something, you will go looking for it until you eventually find it. In this case, the people wanted food so much that they even jumped into their boats to go and get some! So you see, they were diligently seeking Jesus, but it wasn’t for the reasons of believing in the miraculous things that He was doing. Sometimes people will even get a job somewhere, not because they care about the works that the company is doing, but because they are only there for the money. Sincere motives are a huge part of the Christian faith, and Jesus redirected their hearts to seek after the miracle of the Everlasting bread of God, which is found in Holy Communion when we partake of the Sacrifice of Christ Jesus.
